Front Collision = Porsche CPO ??

Was going to pull the trigger on this 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo but then saw that the carfax indicate "accident". I questioned more about this and the dealer told me that it was in a front collision and the hood and bumper was replaced. He showed me the invoice from the body shop and the total of repair was $10,500. But what confuses me most is that the dealership insisted that it was still Porsche Approved CPO. how is this possible?! Front Collision >> $10,500 repair bill >> Porsche Approved? WTF! And the sales men insisted that it was because there were no structural damage or damage to the inside of the vehicle.... right. I've purchased a few CPO Porsche's in the past and always had confidence that I was getting a vehicle that has never been in a major accident... now I'm casting doubt on the Porsche Approved process, the integrity of the CPO tag altogether.

Thoughts?

CPO does not mean that there has never been anything wrong with a car. It means that it is all up to Porsches specs.

I can see where a minor front end collision could cause $10K worth of damage on one of these without having any effect on the structure of the car.

Sorry man, that's complete crap! I didn't think you could CPO one that's been wrecked. I know Park Place in Dallas or Bob Moore in OKC won't. FYI, I'm selling mine. It's CPO'd by Park Place, 28K miles, 120K+ sticker, pretty much all options including PDCC, thermal glass, discrete rear entertainment, etc... no accidents for sure and in excellent condition. It's Artic Silver/two tone Havana/Sand, absolutely stunning combination...

It's also has a complete the full 3M shield on the front, hood, inside door handles, quarter panels. You probably won't find a better one anywhere. Contact me at tc4542@***.net if you're interested.

Thanks,
Ted.

I bought mine cpo'd 58k miles was turned in after a front end minor accident. All new front end cosmetics no structural (they tell me) I see repair invoice, car looks new . So far it's been a great car, the cpo took car of usual cayenne problems; coil packs, drive shaft, rear hatch dohicky's, and coolant pipes. Car runs and drives like a dream couldn't be happier, except for eating through the first set of tires rather quickly. Use the info to bring your price down and enjoy!!

CPO is a warranty, there is some basic inspection involved. Don't be fooled by CPO. You should always have a full inspection done and ask all the questions and examine the car's history.

If you buy this car, you'll have a hard time reselling it due to the accident history. It's no longer a no story car. In this soft market, I would look at another car.

they are offering $60k. I figure I would be able to work them some more so I stopped by the dealership this morning and upon starting the car, about 3 lights came on... PSM Malfunction, Engine Check, and some other warning light. I shut off the engine and just walked away.

Came on or stayed on when you tried to drive away?

All of these lights are supposed to come on and run system checks when you start the car. Some take several seconds to complete. If they stay on after you start driving then there is a problem.

Call PCNA. I do not think they can CPO it with an accident.

They can. I read the requirements at one point. They won't CPO a "salvage".

Where do you draw the line on an accident? Seriously!

In Colorado the legal definition of an "accident" is "damage caused by the movement of a vehicle or it's load" So technically a "door ding" can fall under the definition of an accident.

It is very easy to have cosmetic damage on these cost in the tens of thousands to repair. Even a proper repaint and sheet metal work form a door ding could run a couple of grand in somme cases.

As long as the structural elements are unharmed it all falls under the cosmetic definition.

Good choice. You dont want to get invloved with a car that had that much damage.
