Should i get a 05-06 Porsch Cayenne Turbo
Should i get a 05-06 Porsch Cayenne Turbo
Hey everyone, what are the cons and pros on these years, should i get earlier models 03-04 or 05-06. Overall in the future will it cost me to much money to maintain; if i get one about 65k on it 2005 Porsche Cayenne turbo? How about the gas do you guys daily feed $30 bucks to the car?
Thank You
Thank You
I picked this phrase from Ferrari forum, when someone asked the similar question regarding to Ferrari ownership, I've substituted Ferrari with Porsche.
"If you already think of considering the maintenance cost & gas $$$, this car isn't for you; in fact Porsche isn't for you."

Question does not make sense ...
How can you determine seriously the amount of gas you want to use per day without even asking what is the purpose of the car...Just throwing numbers like that does not attract serious answers...

i have an o4 and its fantastic, it has 100k on it and runs like
it just rolled off the line. as long as the car had a good owner, no expence spaired
in the maintence department, you should be just fine saving 50-70000 off
the sticker price. this fact alone makes these cars screaming bargins.
they are not hunk of crap yukons, esclades, hummers. the build quality
inside is amazing as is the suspension and engine. you just cant beat this
car at these great prices.

I have both a 04 and 05... there is basically no difference that I can tell... maybe a bit newer... not sure if the 05's had the coolant pipes fixed or not. If they did that would be a plus...
Please dont take this the wrong way bc I am fully convinced almost anyone can be a porsche owner if you do your hw but if your concerned about gas consumption a CTT is not a good pick for you. Maybe a Base Cayenne with some warranty would be a better starting point ! Throw some wheels and springs on it and thats a great looking truck period.
Personally I would stay with 05 or 06. I have had an 05 for four years or so and it is a fantastic vehicle. No issues, incredibly fast, and a joy to drive. From my research at the time and what I have continued to hear the 05 and higher have a lot of issues worked out, but plenty of people have had great success with the earlier ones too. As previously stated, get one that has been well maintained and cared for thoroughly.
Not to pick a fight but maintenance and fuel are legitimate questions. My Cayenne is driven by my wife, she has two cars, we live in town, and she raises our two year old and doesn't work outside the home so she drives a minimal amount compared to most. So fuel economy doesn't matter to me on her cars, but... it would on the Cayenne if she drove a lot. It has the factory PowerKit plus some additional mods and gets about 8-9 MPG. When you drive 100 miles a week that doesn't matter. If you drive 100 miles a day that adds up.
So... fantastic vehicle, I don't think you will be disappointed!
(BTW, I have a Ferrari too but I am still a cheap bastard and think 8-9 MPG is ridiculous!)

My 2005 CT has proven unreliable. Perhaps those made later than mine are more reliable. Or maybe it's becuase mine is so heavily optioned that it's prone to breakge. I'd recommend a late build 2005 or newer.
I believe the coolant pipe issue was not resolved until the 4.8 Liter engines.
Mine gets 11 mpg in town summer and 9 mpg winter. However, I have seen as much as 19.2 mpg summer and even 15.7 mpg towing a heavy trailer.
I fill it up once or twice a week. It ain't cheap but it's a blast and comfortable. I love the air suspension.

hope this is not an off-the-topic response, and or question on this thread..
i had an 06 Armada - 5.6 V8 engine.. while not using premium gas, is the consumption similar? I'm just basing a trip from Houston to Dallas (driving the Armada at full tank, 240+ miles later/non stop for almost 5 hrs, the gas/gauge is at (almost below) the 1/2 mark
coming back (Dallas to Houston) the Cayenne (from full tank) was about at the 1/4 mark
now i am thinking, if i can afford to keep the Armada for almost 5 yrs, I can afford the gas for this P car/err.. SUV.. of course I will be driving this less.. the best way is to have a beater car.. not sure if driving short trips will be significantly different (5.6L V8 compared to 4.8L TT on premium petrol)

There is a LOT of internet "recycling" of information out there. From what I can tell there may have simply been may more 2004 models produced than 05-06. Creating the impression that the earlier versions had mroe issues when the reality is that there are simply more of them. Most of those probably have more miles on them at any given point in time too.
How so?
About the only item that can leave you stranded is the coolant pipe issue. That only happens once. Then you put in the aluminum replacements and no further issues.
From my research the CTT is just as reliable if not more reliable than any of the othre German cars out there. OR cars in general. ALL cars have issues, period.
Does anyone know how many CTT units were imported to the US for the 2004 model year?
BTW, my other choice was an x5 4.8is, go over to the x5 forums and you will really see what unreliability is. They have threads like, "I hate my x5" and "Do you ever want to just sell your x5?"
Every other post is breakdown related, and a lot of it is BIG stuff. When I came over here to check thing out, I was pleasantly suprised to see most of the threads aimed at mods and such. I'll take blown coolant pipes and broken driveshaft rubbers anyday. At least Porsche came out with a fix for the coolant pipes. And rubber parts such as supension bags and driveshaft couplers are subject to a lot of stress and are organic. What do you want?
Ever been around 18 wheelers and their trailers? Bags blow all the time.
Hell, my 1993 eclipse gsx went thru transmissions, transfer cases, and driveshafts like crazy-
