Winter set-up...adding TPMS sensors to '06 OEM 19s??

I have an '09 GTS and am trying to put a winter set up together.

Found some nice '06 19" OEM Cayenne wheels. Any issues
adding sensors if I had to, as I believe first year they used TPMS was '07?

If I do not put TPMS sensors in, what kind of message/chime/alarm will
I be getting? And should you use OEM sensors, or are there others that work as well. Winter set up will be on the car for 4 months., other 8 I use the GTS 21s.

thanks...

I have two sets of wheels with sensors. (in my 04).

Its just an option in the dash computer to learn the new sensors, pretty easy. There is also an option to turn off the system if you want to run wheels without them.

The procedure is in the owners manual. Its just an option in your center display.

Basically every time you select a different tire size it is going to try to relearn the TPMS. There is also just an "off" option in there.

TPMS was an option for my 2005 CT and on mine I can select via PCM to disable TPMS. However, I am confident the dealer could disable TPMS if needed.

I believe TPMS was standard beginning with 2006. I would not live without it. TPMS alerted me to a screw I had just picked up. And with a performance vehicle I would not want to press it risking anything related to tire malfunction.

While two reputable tire sellers claimed that the TPMS sensors on my '05 are different (and one charged more money for the older OEM's) another great seller claimed the newer ones worked fine and what he sold me work well. I heard that some of the oriental made TPMS give reading errors.

Dealer wants $700 for a new set. Wheel Enhancement charged $500. TireRack quoted $366. Ernie's Porsche Alloys sold them for $200.

FWIW, I think ALL cars had to have TPMS starting sometime in 07 as a new required safety feature. That is why you can probably turn it off on the earlier Cayennes but not the later ones.

Just stick with your original wheels and get the 21" pirelli scorpion and ice tires. I have them on my 08 GTS in the winter and they kick ***!!

If anybody could chime in a confirm this, it'd be appreciated. I HATE THE GOVERNMENT IN MY CAR IN MY BATHROOM. And it figures they could require TPMS but when I change tires of have a flat mine offers me several options.

BTW, did you know there are THREE different TPMS systems on these cars?

There's the PCM main read out. There's the Tire Pressure Settings. Then there's the one to REALLY PAY ATTENTION TO! It comes on in red when going down the road to alert you.

Of the three, the latter is the most important and the most accurate because it takes into account pressure, altitude, humidity and load.

From WIKI

Due to vehicle safety and maintenance economy, TPMS appeared more widely in Europe as an optional feature for top range luxury passenger vehicles, like the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series. In 1999 the PSA Peugeot Citroën decided to adopt TPM as a standard feature on the Peugeot 607. The following year (2000), Renault launched the Laguna II, the first high volume mid-size passenger vehicle in the world to be equipped with TPM as a standard feature.[citation needed]
The Firestone recall in the United States in the late 1990s which was attributed to more than 100 deaths from rollovers following a tire tread-separation, pushed the Clinton administration to publish the TREAD Act. This act mandated the use of a suitable TPM technology in order to alert drivers of a severe under-inflation condition of their tires. This act affects all light motor vehicles (under 10,000 pounds) sold after September 1, 2007.[citation needed]
Phase-in started in October 2005 at 20%, and reached 100% for models produced after September 2007.
