06 cayenne S coolant pipes

currently don't have any problems with my wife's 06 Cayenne S but have tried reading up on this problem. Is replacing the plastic coolant tubes with the aluminum kit from Suncoast something I can do myself or is it best done by my mechanic?? We have approx. 60K miles on it now and so far it's been really good to us!!

Definitely a DIY - I just did it a week ago, and I'm not a mechanic by any means. RennList has a great DIY article with bunches of pics. Sunset had the parts for something like $450. There are even good links to the actual Porsche PIWIS workshop manuals with step-by-step instruction you can buy for under $10.

The pipes themselves are relatively easy, with a little challenge getting the broken off pieces out of the lower tube. Mine is a Turbo, and there are ridiculously hard "t" hoses at the back engine wall that also must be replaced, that literally take hours to work off. I think the S doesn't have this problem or the maze of vacuum hoses and connectors in front of the intake.

My dealer wanted $3,200 for the job. Parts plus a few specialized tools ran me maybe $600. Just give yourself a nice long weekend. And don't forget it's 4+ gallons of coolant, not 2. I had to make two trips to the dealer.

Thanks for the reply, definitely will look into getting the info from RennList. I called my dealer and they quoted me approx. $1,500 to do the job, but would rather do it myself and safe some money!!
