Poll- Estimated value of mods at resale
Poll- Estimated value of mods at resale
Gentlemen:
I am curious as to your opinions as to what percentage of the original modification cost is typically recaptured on resale.

Yes, I understand it depends on the buyer . But, assuming the buyer is interested in a modified vehicle what percentage of the original modification costs to you believe would be recaptured?
Had a highly modified 08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Probably had $7000 into it. Probably got 2500-3000 back on mods. Keep in mind that there are a lot of Jeep buyers that do want a ton of work on their Jeeps so that may be why I got such a high return on investment. On a car like ours a ton of mods may be a problem at a dealership during trade in. Also, as far as mods Jeepers tend to have similar tastes(big tires, lift, bumpers etc) where as a cayenne owner may not want non oem bolt on stuff on a car they are looking to buy. I would only mod the car for you and not as an investment because unless the ONE guy shows up wanting exactly the same thing you did you may have a hard time getting rid of it.

Well said! Mods are truly only for your happiness, I don't count on getting any money out of it when it's time, learned many times now...
Dealership usually will not accept a highly moded vehicle. It will take a specific buyer who is looking for these specific mods and possible done by reputable installer. May need good documentation. I kept all my factory stock parts. I will replace all the stock parts prior to selling.
Yeah I agree with the others...modding is very individual, and everyones taste is different. Probably the only way to recapture the most money for your mods is to keep all the original parts to put your car back to stock. Then resell the parts individually on here :-)

Not much at ALL! unless you find that ONE buyer that actually cares for the mods...usually though if they are a good negotiator they will tell you they dont care about any mods
If you get 25 cents on the dollar, assuming the mods sell with the car, that would be exceptional. Based on anecdotal evidence, money spent on mods are basically gone unless you remove and sell the part individually.
Even I like your full Techart conversion, personally, I'm still not going to pay more than about 10% original cost for them. I might even convince you that I'm not a big fan to drive the price down.
It really depends on the buyer - you and your luck. I always say that special MODS are to help you justify spending that much money in the first place. They are for your ego and heart, no necessarily for others.
