A Fabspeed bypass pipes rattle cure?

Howdy,

Been ages since I've posted...anyhoo, like most that have the Fabspeed bypass pipes, I've experienced the cold startup rattle since its installation. Well, mine no longer rattles after Porsche did the high pressure fuel pump recall/repair.

Has anyone else with the pipes done their recall? Did it also cure the startup noise?

Hey Hedge-Hog,

I had the Fabspeed Bypass Pipes on my ’09 GTS and removed them because of the excessive cold-start rattling sound. I ended up putting a pair of Magnaflow mufflers on the GTS, and it actually sounds REALLY good!

I liked the sound of the Fabspeed Bypass Pipes, but I couldn’t deal with the cold-start rattling.

I’m not aware of the high pressure fuel pump recall, but my Pepper is at the dealership today for regular scheduled maintenance. I’m going to give my SA a call now to see if the high pressure fuel pump recall is on the list for repair.

After that repair, your rattling with the Fabspeed Bypass Pipes completely went away? That’s amazing! Please confirm, as I may revert back to the OE mufflers and put back my Fabspeed pipes…..which are sitting in a box, with less than 500 miles of use on them.

Thanks!

Never heard of that recall either... could someone enlighten me about it? I would have expected something in the mail from Porsche about it.

Hmmm....maybe it's a Canada-issued recall only. However, mine's a 2008 US car imported to Canada but my local dealer called me to come in. On my work order, it states "A WORKSHOP CAMPAIGN WA29 - Check fuel high-pressure pump on DFI Engines and replace if necessary". The part was 000-043-301-27-001.

But yeah, I used to have that annoying "RATATATATATATAT" on cold start that sounds like it was missing a hanger. But ever since the fuel pump recall, it's completely gone. My wife noticed it and asked if I did anything to fix it. Then I paid attention on every starts (cold and hot) and haven't heard it again. So whether the actual pump fixes it or it was incident because some other part got retightened during the process, it still eliminated the noise.

Hope you guys have similar luck.

Cheers,
-H

Check with your dealer. There is a high pressure fuel pump recall on the GTS.

I called my local dealer and they confirmed that there is a recall on my 08 GTS for the high pressure fuel pump. I currently have Fabspeed bypass pipes installed with the annoying cold start up rattle, so I will report back after my appointment and let you all know if it fixed the rattle problem. (fingers crossed)

Thanks for this information Hedge-hog, this is great to know and could be a fix for anyone who is having this issue. Because there should never be any kind of rattling with our pipes as we would never release them with such an issue. Im glad it got resolved and that you can enjoy the car with no issues.
Let us know how the fix goes Precisionmotors, curious to hear the results.
thanks,

great information hedge hog.
have you noticed anything else about the vehicle since the fuel pump was replaced?
my gts gets a service next month or so, it will be interesting to find out if they replace the pump as part of the service.

Had the high pressure fuel pump replaced last night, I was very anxious to start the truck up this moring and see if it cured the rattle, but to no avail I woke up all the neighbors again. 8-( Guess I'll just have to stick with the old cure of putting the car in gear immediately after start up.

how is the rattling?? is it only on GTS? just got my fabspeed installed, "i think" there's no rattle, or maybe it's not that obvious.. sounds different.. maybe causes a bit of vibration (?).. so far so good though.. (06 CTT-S)

I have an '09 CTT-S that I just bought used with 11k. It has bypass pipes fabspeed I believe because it doesn't have any hangars welded onto them. And they are polished so that also leads me to believe they are the fabspeed ones. I have no rattling what so ever. Just wondering it it's a model issue ie CTT-S, GTS CS etc

Am I the only one trying to understand how there is a correlation between a fuel pump and the exhaust system???
Is it possible that mayber the dealer who did the fix also adjusted the exhaust slightly so it stopped hitting the transmission cross member. What if the dealer noticed this and told the mechanics to fix it so there was no possibility that the customer might think that the rattling was caused by the dealer fixing the car? The bypass pipes rattle because they don't fit right or the flex downpipe is causing it to angle down slightly. AND I'm a little surprised we have someone from fabspeed in this thread suggesting that the fuel pump may be a 'fix' for this issue. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how they are related at all?? I'm thinking for $600, Fabspeed should start puttting some hangers on their bypass pipes instead of suggesting that the fuel pump is causing their product to rattle.

Any chance Fabspeed can fabricate some hangers for these if we send them back?
