Cayenne S vs Volvo XC90 V8

I just saw the commercial for the XC90 not too long ago, I've been meaning to post this thread, but time hasn't allowed it.

Anyways, just wanted to see what the general public thought about the Volvo XC90 (V8 Edition) in comparision to the Cayenne S? Personally, I'd probably still choose the Cayenne S, merely due to how much better it looks compared to the XC90.

Anybody else?

I have a T-6 XC-90 (not V8) and I wouldn't trade it for a Cayenne S. Maybe a Cayenne Turbo, but I love the Volvo. It's my wifes car and she wouldn't have any other car. Lots more room than the Porsche and IMHO, a better SUV.

Many of my local coworkers have them(the v6 versions as the V8 is new) and I concidered it for about the time it too me to yawn. They are boring, but nice... Typical volvo.... The built in booster seat is pretty cool though.

we were all set on getting and XC (before the V8 came out) after driving the boring Cay S. a few months went by and we went and drove the cayenne turbo after riding in GT3Scott's when visiting him and being in one taxied sideways at 100+ mph around porsche's leipzig track. although the SUVs were then taken to porsche's off road track immediately after where they were driving at 45+ degree angles and through mud up to the doors, what sold me was how safe they are since they went into (controllable) oversteer at the limit instead of rolling over. i know the XC also has a great anti-roller control, it just doesn't inspire the same confidence. anyway, we went and test drove one and were sold (we didn't notice the horrendous hesitation because the car was new and doing so wouldn't have been within break in recommendations). immediately after driving the Cay T but before committing to it we then went and drove the XC again (as well as the GX470). the volvo felt like a turd. the interior instantly became cheap and the ride substandard (especially in the back seat) upon driving both the GX470 and CT. that said, if i was relegated to the Cay S vs. Cay T (and i didn't know what a POS the cayenne is in terms of build quality, hesitation, oil use, tire use, steering vibration on the highway, etc), we would most definetely have gone with the GX470. given all the cayenne's problems, the performance of the CT marginally edges out the GX470 IMO; however, the GX470 is about 1/2 the price!

Ben, you probably wouldn't love the GX either...I have one too and gave it to one of my salesmen....Very top heavy and the ride is annoying over time...

build quality and tranny is of course way superior to the Cayenne,,the lags are driving me crazy....what should I get?

initeresting. i thought the ride was nice (better than the volvo but not quite as good as the cayenne - rear seat anyway). the tallness and corresponding narrow width did make me wonder about it being top heavy. mike valentine, a fellow porsche freak, has a GX430 with some optional suspension upgrade he chose over the cayenne despite being that pcar freak. the 4.8 X5 did well vs. the cayenne turbo though bmw service sucks **** (as you probably know - the exact opposite of lexus - and volvo).

The Lexus should not be driven aggressively...I scared myself a couple of times...It corners pretty badly due to the top heaviness...when driven intelligently, it handles ok...but I tend to push it a bit and it felt unsafe to me...

Tranny and engine were a joy. ride on certain type road was fine..on certain bumpy roads it tossed you around..

Close but no cigar...If I didn't just get a place in NYC, I would consider an LX 470...

I may just get a car one of these days...or hammer Porsche into getting me a new Cayenne to ***** about...

yeah, my wife and I tried out the XC as well before buying the CTT, and wasn't very impressed. My wife being in her mid-late 20s, felt as if I was trying to make her older than she was ready to be by driving a volvo.
I love the CTT despite it's minor annoyances like hesitation, but have you seen this XC?
it might make a whole different story...

and the rear...

This tuner version is supposed to handle really well and boasts something in the 550hp range, if I'm not mistaken.
