CEL after 2 weeks away

hi guys,

Was excited to jump into the pepper after a 2 week vacation and much to my dismay the check engine light is lit. I'm wondering if the battery drained a bit as I didn't do anything to prep but simply parked her in the garage. Other symptoms, slightly rough and low idle but no problems starting. Under warranty so I don't worry about going to the dealer but hate to take the time. Any thoughts?

PS - Had a little 5 series diesel BMW in Italy, fun to drive at speed but doesn't hold a candle to an '06 TTS. Once you get past the driving the GPS on a new car is embarrassingly good compared to the POS stock navigation I have. fwiw

Rough idle, sounds like you are going to need new coil packs. How many miles do you have on it?

Buy this for $35 : http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...uestid=1436233

Plug it in and read your codes. Post them here when done or just google them.
This little sucker has worked wonders for me.

Thanks. The roughness is gone and I've already replaced all the coils about 5k miles ago (currently have about 54k miles on it)

Will definitely buy the code reader.

My CEL came on over the weekend; end up being "dirty oil" or something. Not a major fault but took it to the dealer; they checked it and cleared it right there at no charge. I forgot the exact code/desc..

My oil is due to be changed in a month so taking it back then. A loose gas cap can also throw a CEL; it will clear itself on its own after a couple of days the dealer told me.

Ordered a new gas cap from suncoast in Florida. Better fit, code has not come back.
