80+ mph groan

Took the GTS on a long drive last night on I-5. I noticed a groan type of noise when traveling above 80mph. Anything under 80mph and it's pretty quiet and smooth. At around 90mph, I put the vehicle in neutral to see if it would go away but the noise still existed. I'm thinking it's because of the tires. The vehicle still has the original Yokohama Advan's, the tread appears okay and I cannot see any signs of uneven wear. Any idea what it could be?

Balance wheels, they can tell you if a wheel is bent then, then get it unbent..........or alignment is last.

I've had my fair share of vibration issues in the past. Normally, I've experienced out of balance wheel vibrations between 60-70mph then it goes away at speeds above 75mph. The fact that te groan starts at 80mph I kinda ruled it out. However, I'm going to take your advice and get a Hunter GSP9700 road force analysis performed anyways.

I thought I was getting a great deal on some new 22 techart reps with new tires. Had them put on and I drive very little about 60-80 I get a vibration. I had the P dealer balance and put them on.

went to discount tire, the guys rebalanced all 4, to a much better feeling at highway speeds. And were like, your wheels are bent.

I can get them repaired for cheap but with my low speed and pension for running over things.........I will wait until next summer since I am about to slap on the winter wheels and tires in 30 days or so.

I have the same issue on my 09 GTS; anything less then 80mph is smooth & quiet; but get a slight groan as you mentioned at 80mph+. Not really any vibration; but just a noise that isn't there below 80mph.

This happens with both my summer tires (21's) and the winter ones (18's). I would find it hard to believe that both wheel sets are unbalanced, especially since the results are the same. There was a bend on one of my 21's but the dealer had it straightened out and re-balanced all 4 wheels, this was causing vibration at 70mph. Like I said; it happens with two completely different sets of rims. I was wondering if it might possibly be wind (perhaps some weird virbation that happens at 80mph+) or perhaps an axle or drive shaft being unbalanced??

Wow, I just noticed this weekend that I have this SAME "issue" on my '09 GTS with 25K miles. I hear it ever so slightly, but my rear view mirror has a virbration at this speed that makes everything look blurry. I was thinking that I need to post something on 6speedonline - and it's already here!! It sure doesn't seem like a tire vibration - but I guess it could be. I thought it was coming from the drivetrain or possibly and driveshaft.

Any other ideas?

Okay, I'm glad I'm not alone. I wonder what it is and if it's normal? I was thinking that it's the tires but apparently not.

Hard to troubleshoot with the dealers I'm near because to go above 80mph for a lengthy period of time risks getting a speeding ticke tin my area.

I had a brand new set of tires installed last week and this observation of groaning at 80+mph still occurs. ANy word on what you folks might think it is?
