Similar to the the radio ***** that are on my Boxter S, the ashtray covers (lids) and the adjacent piece on my Cayenne have become very stick to the touch - i'm told it's the hot weather in S. Fla. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix? I don't use them, but don't like to see such an eyesore on such a beautiful vehicle.

 

Similar to you I have various pieces that are sticky. I dont really think there is anything short of replacement you can do. I cleaned mine with a little simple green and it helped.

 

I replaced both of mine because they where sticky and the coloring was coming off. Now both the new pnes are stcky again. very strange. I live in NY.

 

Same problem in Southern California, try to clean them but not very effective.

 

I was thinking about scraping off the sticky surface of my ashtray cover (05 Boxster S) with my thumbnail or some other non-abrasive tool to get down to the plastic underneath. The sticky film is so soft it's easy to do. Anybody else tried this rather then replacing them every time they turn sticky?

 

I just bought a 2004 Cayenne S that had this very same issue. Rubbing alcohol, a micro fiber towel and lots of elbow grease will get all of that sticky coating off. It took several cleanings but all of that coating is gone now. I was afraid to scrape it off in fear of scratching the plastic. The alcohol and soft towel did the trick without damage and the ashtrays look new again.
