If your fuel pump is bad, the vehicle would not run at all.

Actually that's not entirely true. When a fuel pump is beginning to fail, it won't deliver consistent fuel pressure, causing the vehicle to sputter on occasion. When this does happen, it's a sign of an impending failure of the pump.

I'm sorry, I should've clarified myself a little better. Dennis you are absolutely right. Thank you.

I'm not sure on a good source. I had mine replaced by my local mechanic.

I'm my case, only one of the two fuel pumps was failing.

I just replaced my fuel pump on the left side a few weeks ago. The left side pump is the main pump and the right side pump is the auxilary pump. It is very commonn that the left side pump fails.

Mine was sputtering for a good 100 miles and then I stopped at a rest stop. when I came out, the vehicle would start for 5 seconds then quit every time I started the vehicle so I towed it to my shop and tested the main fuel pump to find out there was no pressure. I put direct power to the pump and the pump would not run so after I replaced it, the vehicle ran beautiful! I would begin with replacing the left side pump first.
