Remote Key Distance

Does anyone have a trick to increase the range of the remote key? Love when I have rental cars and can press the key in a huge parking lot to immediately find the car - have to be basically standing over the Cayenne to make it work.

You'll think this is insane - but it works, not only on the P!G key, but also on various BMWs with crappy remote range I own.

Open the key - stick the tip of the key to your chin and press the button. You can easily double the range of the key.

BTW - you have a 2005 - there is SIB on key range over on the rentech.org site (you must be a paid member to access those..)

Yep, same idea here. Sounds crazy but if you hold the remote on your forehead, it works from a further distance.

Yea, I was told that its because the key is inferred vs. radio frequency like the new cars. Either way it sucks, lol. I think I'll touch my key to my nose.

Can someone tell me how to get all the doors to open when hitting the key fob? My drivers door is the only one that unlocks then I have to manually unlock all the doors from the driver door. It sucks when you need something on the passenger side but have to walk over the driver side, open the pass side, then walk back over....Thanks.

Don't listen to whoever told you this.. they're wrong. It's RF, no one uses "inferred" (SIC - I think you mean infrared) for a remote.

And it won't work over a cell phone either..

To open all doors from key fob: Press the open door button twice. (It's in the manual).

The day that I replaced my trunk battery, the distance for the remote was really awesome and I could go like 4X further than before. A couple days later back to crappy distance. I will try the "head amplifier" thing and see if that works.

I too am really ticked that the range (at most) is about 5 feet. I have a 9 year old Nissan Pathfinder that I can easily lock/unlock a good 300 feet away at least. Besides the oddball "trick" to place the fob on the chin or head, is there anything that can truly be done about this?
I used to own a BMW M Z3 Coupe and there was a TSB on it about the same issue. It basically told the techs to remove the antenna from the plastic housing it normally resided within the A pillar and that in itself improved the range twice fold.
