Cayennee Rear Main Seal Leak - what should it cost

Hello All
I have a 03 Cayenne S. 91k miles
local repair shop says rear main seal has a bit of a leak but no oil has dropped yet in our garage.

what should this cost to repair and how serious is this with a
'small' leak?

I guess an average cost would be appreciated as I know labor rates vary from shop to shop.

thanks

It should be the same seal as the 997. the parts should cost no more than $50 and the labor is around 8-10 hours depending on the repair shop in your area. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions about pricing.

It requires the removal of transmission and re-install. Labor heavy work, part is very inexpensive. Make sure to get it done at a very reputable shop, preferably at one specializes in European cars.

so i got a couple quotes from our usual euro motors mechanic (we have a few mercs/bmws in family)
prices ranged from 800-1300.00

the leak has only dripped a couple times on our garage floor, so I am gonna wait another couple weeks before dropping this much cash.

I have the same issue with my Cayenne. The repair quote from my local Porsche dealer was around $1,600.

The RMS was replaced on my CS yesterday by the dealer. Since it was under warranty, there was no price. I can look up the work order and see how many hours it took them (if they put in there).

They also replaced thermostat (work order says it was stuck in always open position), water pump seal etc.

Was there a sooty oil dusting on the license plate area?

My car has this leak, already for 2 years and 20k miles. The Porsche Dealer told me that it's not worth pulling the engine just for that. I top up my car with a quart of oil every 2500-4000 miles, depending on how aggressive I drive, so it's not been an issue for me (I drive about 10k miles a year).
