Intake and bypass install write-up on my 04 CTT
I wanted to write up a detailed install and quick review of my Leistung bypass and intake kit for my 2004 Cayenne Turbo, just in case anyone else needs some advice or guidance doing the install. I'm not a affiliated in any way with the company.
I decided to install the intake kit first. The kit was pretty good looking and pretty basic actually..not much to putting an intake on these if some wants to get creative!! But I didn't have the time to piece one together and the shields are nice with this kit...sooo its a good deal. Later on I'll get it all polished. As it sits now, its just brushed aluminum. The passenger side gave me a few issues, mostly because it's the side I started with and it took me a little while to get it right.
I removed, the stock air boxes and evap hose (I think), the air box came out pretty easy for me. I then placed the heat shield in the bay for fitment. I took a little time to clean the turbo inlet pipe, had some dust in there. There is definitely room for aftermarket intakes to the turbo, I'll get to that later! I ended up putting the filter in the fender opening, the pipe through the heat shield and then tightening the filter onto the 3" pipe. (the Filters are 3" K&N filters). I then placed the rubber elbow on the intake pipe and then on the maf...once everything was situated..I tightened the t-bolt clamps. As for the evap hose...I ended up having to cut it just under the plastic 90 deg fitting and placed a small K&N filter on it, which was included in the kit. I then zip tied it up..This part of the kit could use a little more work, maybe a barbed fitting that goes through the heat shield and then connect it to the hose on one side and then the little filter on the other...it should be a little easier, but I can always tweak it later. The driver side wasn't too bad, but I did see some oil in that intake pipe! ...And I do have to say that those plastic pipes that Porsche uses are junk...IMO.
I post some pics of the intake install and completed as soon as I get them all uploaded..I left the engine covers off just for a little bit to make sure everything is good. As for the sound, it sounds really good, definitely hear the turbos and the little wimpy diverter valves....I'm pretty sure they open up at 3/4 throttle and dump boost because I can hear it. I'll be getting some new ones soon. Overall, the intakes sound great and I love hearing the turbos.

Next came the bypass pipes, and let me tell you I got super lucky on this. If I didn't have the right tools and luck...this could have turned into a nightmare and I would have been taking it to an exhaust shop to get the old cat pipe bolts hacked off.

First, I would say that unless your Cayenne has pretty low miles and those bolts aren't rusted..you might get all of them off without breaking them...if not then you run the risk of rounding them off if you don't have a good socket and long extension. Luckily, I have a 42" 3/8" extension and some good snapon 6 point sockets, 12mm is the size on the factory nut. In my case, I pretty much twisted off all of the bolts and nuts off...except ONE, which came off normally, lol.

As for the top bolts, I had to use my extension and swivel 3/8" adapters...The passenger side was even harder due to the weird angle on the top nut. I had to use 2 extensions, 42" and ~12" with two swivel adapters..once again I was able to twist the nut until the bolt broke...thank god the bolt broke and didn't strip!! lol

Once the old junk was off..the new stuff went on great...no issues
That part is pretty straight forward. Is this for the average person to do with their little tool box...I'd say no, but stay at it...and you might be ok.
The sound is TOUGH now, not too loud, but you can definitely hear the lope of the engine now and when you step on it, it wakes up! I'll try to get some outside video and sound clips but from the inside it sounds pretty dang good! Response is soooo much better now...Once the catback exhaust is on and I get some primary cat delete pipes and tune...this thing should be a rocket.
. It accelerates so much easier too now in the higher gears and gets into boost faster now. I'm happy, the quality was good and the price was pretty good too from Leistung...it's a good value for both pieces. Glad I did these upgrades...unfortunately I want more now. haha
Highflow muffers and diverter valves are next.

I was looking at this too, did you Dyno the car before the upgrades? I am just wondering if those two things actually give the Cayenne more HP... I'll still end up do the upgrades anyways
Yea, everything goes on just fine. Just taking pictures w/out them to show the intake/install. Mods are fun
I have a question about the evap hose, althought I'm not sure if this applies to the 04 CTT. How did you take if off of the filter box? On my 08 CTT, it quite "stuck" on there, I spent a good o 15 min trying to yank it off, but no avail. Was there something special you have to do to take it off?

Once you get it off, plop the little filter on there and you're done!
^^I trimmed mine down a little and then put it on..it was pretty tight after that. Or you could get a really small hose clamp put that on to tighten the filter up.
Let us know how it comes out!

Just curious, was there suppose to be some sort of rubber ring inside of the hose? I didn't take physics course seriously, I'm failing to see how it could tightly fit....
Also, the tip of the hose is plastic, so I dont think using a clamp would help

One hopefully useful addition to that nice write-up. I discovered this weekend that if you take the headlight assemblies out, you have very easy access to the backsides of the stock airboxes. Wish I had known that before... It takes less than five minutes to get both headlights out. The instructions are in the owner's manual and Porsche even includes the necessary tool in the rear tool kit (next to the car jack).
