Project 955TT
This is my first post on this forum, so hello everybody! My name is Torsten and I live in Austria.
I just wanted to tell you about the project regarding my beloved 955TT. It's a -05 with 220.000 really hard kilometers. I'm brutal with the car both on Germany's Autobahns, where I drive it flat out everytime it's allowed, and on Alpine passes, where my driving style is full acceleration & full braking. This kind of driving style is, of course, tough for the car's parts like brakes (normally one set of discs and two sets of pads per year), tyres (two sets per year), bushes and so on (will come to that in a moment). Better not to mention the fuel consumption, as it's horrendous. The car naturally has a complete service history.
Today, when I was driving back home, I made a decision to keep this car for years and just keep driving it. These cars have no resale value here in Europe, but the value for money a well-mainteined 955TT offers is, in my opinion, unbeatable. So, I began making a list of things that needs to be done. The list seems to be rather long. I will not use the Porsche main dealer services to make it tip top, but will find a reputable independent Cayenne specialist to do the job (but will take it to Porsche for scheduled maintenance in the future, just like I've done so far). Before taking my car to a garage, I want to understand the issues and what is needed to solve the problems, so that they won't take me for a ride, money-wise.
Here are some points from my list:
1. Play in the drive-train and occasional clonking noises
After reading this forum I came to a conclusion, that it's the drive shaft.
2. Play in the suspension and steering
Worn bushes everywhere. I need to do more research to understand what and where are the bushes, that needs to be changed. I want to have them all changed and upgraded.
3. Engine doesn't pull nicely, there are power spikes in the delivery and so on.
First thing to do is to change the spark plugs, maybe leads and new airfilter, too.
4. Gearbox doesn't change nicely, happens sometimes. And sometimes it slips a bit.
New oil and filter. Maybe, or maybe not, adding the following, or similar product:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-Auto...ht_1850wt_1303
5. Plenty of little niggles like airbag light, electronic towbar light, electric mirrows (act weird while adjusting), dark instrument panel and so on.
6. Paintwork: front bumber (stone chips & scratch in the right corner, thanks to some nice person doing it and not even leaving a note), right mirrow case (new case needed) and wheels maybe.
7. Little cosmetic upgrades, like wrapping the satin silver exterior trims in matt carbon, painting the exhaust tailpipes in black, maybe 20" wheels to make the handling more solid (18" with winter tyres right now, it feels like my old Caprice... almost) etc.
8. Professional detail.
9. Something, that I can't remember right now.
10. Ah, yes! The fan keeps working 5 to 10 minutes after I have turned the engine off. It sounds rather loud to me. It hasn't been running like this before.
All in all, I'm really excited about this project. It's really nice to bring this car back to it's former glory and enjoy it at least another 200.000km.
So, let the search for information, spare parts and upgrades begin.
Thank you for reading.

If only here in the USA they decided to make Autobahns....oh wait. What ar those things that would stop that in a second? You know, greedy little things...o yeah. I know. I think they call them lawyers.
J/K. Of course, with a litiguous society as USA, it is no surprise such highway systems are not here. Too bad.

I've lived in Europe for many years and have never heard of 'bushes' in that context. Must be an Austrian thing.
Hey, he can call them bishes if he wants. We are just making friendly fun. Great to see someone taking advantage of local law and roads with the Cayenne. Wish it was us.

But I am sure that those riding the Autobahn will also tell us that it is not what it used to be...with congestion, often the unlimited Autobahn turns into slow traffic. Man can't get his joy rides in anymore in this world...

just like motorcycling - most people go to church then and so do many cops (in North Carolina/Virginia area, it was like clock work, unlimited speed riding until 11:30am, at which time cops get out of church and start patrol).
So you get from about 8am to 11:30 to have fun...lol.

By bushes I was referring to these little devils: http://www.superflex.co.uk/products.php?cat=393. They are a British company are and calling them as bushes, so that's good enough to me. I don't know what are they called to here in Austria, as I don't speak the language too well.

Being a petrol-head, the unrestricted sections of autobahn and snowy mountain roads were important reasons why I moved to this area. They sure were not the only reasons, though. Whatever the mood, there's always a suitable stage nearby.

Sorry for the lack of updates re my project! The reason is, that I got rid off the car, even if I told I wouldn't. I drove my Cayman until yesterday, when I bought another Cayenne, 957TT this time. It has just begun to snow here, so the timing couldn't have been better.
