Cayenne 957 Parking sensors

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum (I'm an M3 driver), so I'm not quite familiar (at all, actually - it took me a while to figure out what a 957 Cayenne was) with Porsches, vendors, etc., but I do know a few things here and there. I have a question regarding parking sensors.

I recently purchased a CPO 2009 Cayenne that did not have parking sensors (although the dealer told me it did, but I quickly figured out it didn't - either way, the deal was too good to pass up). Is it possible to install parking sensors on the car? If so, where could I look for the parts? I know for BMWs I would need the parts and I'd need to do some coding - is that the same procedure for Porsches?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I dont know the part numbers, but would strongly recommend against the parking sensors. I strongly dislike the ones that are on my cayenne. They not at all helpful. I have driven other auto (BMW) with them and that are helpful.

Really? I've never experienced a Porsche with parking sensors, but I have in other cars. The issue I have with the Cayenne is the rounded back - I'm still getting used to it when I back in, and so I don't realized how much room I actually have behind me.

I agree. I have a couple BMW's as well that have great parking sensors. The cayenne takes some time to get used to parking it. It has a weird shape. After a couple of months I have become much more comfortable parking the car. The sensors are too sensitive and not accurate enough to rely on in my opinion.

I have never found this.

Regardless there are aftermarket ones that would be better to use as this point.

If you wanted to take it one step further... my friend has these. Why not make your parking sensors do a little more for you? lol

Not sure about retrofitting parking sensors, remember, you'll also need to install the visual indicators inside the car as well as the sensors on the bumper. Just get a rear camera installed instead, which is probably less expensive anyway.

I have the steelmate pts800MM parking assist and I love it . 4 front 4 rear LED display. Its not as great as the factory one , but I love the slim design, it doesn't look cheap and bulky like most aftermarket .Very basic but works fine. The factory one I had on my 2004 was awesome.
Helas , My 2008 came without it.

Thanks for the input. An OEM retofit is ideal, but I'll look into the steelmate. Thanks!

Why not getting a reversing camera? I fall in love with them when it comes to my life. I believe there's some aftermarket camera that cope well with the PCM screen. I know there is some in my country. lol

My CTT parking sensors are useful, however, I do not think there is a replacement for spacial orientation. As a good driver, you should know exactly where all four wheels are in relation to the road. This also encompasses the body that extends over the wheels. Parking sensors and backups cameras can inhibit this sensory awareness.

With that said, if you want to install an aftermarket parking/camera system, more power to you.

I agree, you need to be aware of your vehicle, but it does help to have the parking sensors when parking in unfamiliar areas.

I would give thought to a backup camera - any suggestions?
