Headunit Install
Headunit Install
Is it possible to install a different headunit into the Cayenne? I was thinking something like the Kenwood Excelon would be a good solution. It is a double din and can play dvd's, mp3's, has navigation, and I could hook my ipod into it directly. Let me know if anybody has had any experience with this. I know the Cayenne uses the MOST bus and fiber optics. I currently have the PCM in my 04 Cayenne S. Would this be a problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well since the Cayenne uses fiber optics you would lose your steering wheel controls, but that is about it

Adiaz,
Yes, lost the steering wheel controls. But I hear Pac Audio (www.pac-audio.com) and/or SoundGate (www.soundgate.com) are coming out with a CAN BUS adapter solution. Should have my steering wheel controls back soon!
I really like my Eclipse deck. It's very user-friendly and the video is really good (picture quality-wise). I have other screens in my car and it definitely does have the best picture.
The fact that everything is built into the H/U -- CD/DVD/MP3/NAVI (and PlayStation!) is another plus. It might even save on the install since you won't have to pay labor the other components wired and relocated. The $2K was a bit steep, but again install was pretty simple and straight forward.
I may be upgrading to the AVN5495 soon though (has the 30GB HD
). I just got a call today that they are expecting them by next week.
As for my PCM unit, I'll be storing it in the event I sell the car in the future and want to keep the Eclipse.
