Wheel Paint Kit

Has anyone tried this? I would've dismissed it except it came from Suncoast. I like the idea of going black for the winter and cleaning them up in the spring.

Just buy plasti-dip from any Home Depot or ace hardware. It's the same stuff. I have not yet seen any negative results on many cars with plasti dip. It lasts a while and is less than $10 a can.

Ditto that. Use plasti-dip. I did it to my winters, which i just swapped over to last night (storms coming to Colorado).

I'll post up some pic's of mine later tonight.

I'd like to paint my winter wheels black as well.

In for pictures.

Just snapped these before going into the gym, sorry it's dark now. These are Cayenne 18" rims [255/55/18 Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow], plasti-dipped, I even bought the center caps on ebay, got the Porsche emblem off, plasti-dipped them and reapplied the emblem.

Keep in mind, these were just taken down from the racks and thrown on last night, and the tires are new so they have that white like film on them.

Yes, they are matte, that's how the plasti-dip comes out, I do not think you can buy gloss, but i've seen on youtube people who also apply a clear to give it some shine.

We're suppose to get 4-8 inches tonight into tomorrow, but when I can I'll take better pictures, perhaps some up close ones. If you guys want it...

EDIT!!!

I found a photo from when i first did the wheels, so this is a lot cleaner shot, just after finishing.

Cool, I'd love to see someone else try it.

I think for me... this looks good enough. Got the gloss blacks with the red stripe for summers, so the matte is a nice change up.

BTW - While i did mine with tires off, it's not hard to do with tires on. In fact I had to touch them up once the tires were installed.

I've used Plasti Dip and Wheel paint (drawing a blank on the brand right now, but available at any autoparts store). I much prefer the wheel paint. It's designed for the heat fluctuations and chemical contact. It also lays totally flat making it easier to touch up than the plastidip.

I've done both my old stock wheels and my AT Italias as winter wheels with wheel paint. About $14 in paint, maybe even for all 8 wheels.

Black winter wheels are the best since you do not have to worry about cleaning them that much since it is almost impossible to wash your car properly in freezing temps. I use aerosol truck bed liner for the added durability and slight irregular finish. It hides dirt really well and takes a beating. Since the finish is matte/irregular, it is uber touchup-friendly.
