New member looking at a 06 Turbo S

Vehicle has almost 90,000 miles.

What services should have been accomplished?

I've been reading about cardan shafts, coils, brakes, what else?
I'm looking at only putting 5k per year on it and do not want to have to come out of pocket too much after purchase?

Is the price delta for a Turbo S worth it? vice a regular turbo?

I have previously owned a 98 Boxster 2000-2006 and a 02 911 convertible 2004-2006.
Currently drive a 72 Ranchero, 69 Torino, 86 Volvo 240DL, 89 Volvo 780 turbo.

Just got married and have baby on the way.

Is this has already been answered, please direct me to the link or any other links that would be helpful.

Also, any comments on Pano roof vs regular moonroof?

Thank you.

The Turbo S is a very nice, very fast SUV. However, it is more expensive to maintain than a Turbo. The brakes, in particular, are quite expensive. These vehicles go through brakes about every 40K miles. You might want to drive a regular turbo for comparison.

Make sure the coolant pipes have been replaced with the newer aluminum pipes. Personally, I would look for a car with full service records and one that had the pipes replaced prior to failure. If the plastic pipes burst, then this can lead to other issues.

This vehicle would also be due for the Porsche recommended 90K service, so I'd want that done too.

Thanks Dennis.

Here is what has been done to the vehicle (and not done):

New Cardan Shaft, and up-dated Coolant pipes.

This has not been done according to my records.

Here are the service records:

19k – CAYENNE OIL SERV / 20K CAY TURBO
32k – CAYENNE OIL SEV
39k – 40K CAY TURBO
49k – CAYENNE OIL SERV / PORSCHE BRAKE F
64k – CAYENNE OIL SERV / 60K CAY TURBO
77k – CAYENNE OIL SER

Is there an 80k or 90k service?
How much does it cost to replace the coolant pipes?
How much to change the brakes?

I'm guessing this is being sold due to upcoming service? Always a discount for needed service..

There should be a 90K service, if I'm not mistaken.

The coolant pipes will run you roughly $1,600 to $1,800, depending on where you have them done. I'm not sure on the brakes. They are expensive enough on the S and the Turbo. They are quite a bit more on the Turbo S. For a standard Turbo or S, if you do all four rotors and pads (as well as sensors, hardware, etc.) you'll be in the $2,400 range, depending on your mechanic. For the Turbo S the parts are much more expensive.

The 90k service isn't a big deal. If you have a Porsche dealer do it, then it will run you somewhere around $1,000.

Check the tires too - Cayennes EAT tires. Look carefully at the inner edges because sometimes the tires will look great from the outside, but when you see the inner edge, it's a different story.

I decided on a CTT and not a CTT-S. The main reason was because I drive the car in the snow (live in the North East). I can fit 18" rims with snow tires on the car. The Turbo S brakes do not allow for 18" wheels. I also had my car chipped, so it now has aprox the same HP as Turbo S. I am not discounting the wow factor of the CTT-s, I think it is an awesome car! I am just letting you know what was involved in my decision. I absolutely love my car, and plan on driving it for a long time. I did have the pipes changed, center bearing etc.

john777 You can usually do the work yourself, if your fairly mechanically inclined, which it sounds like you are and if you have the time to do it. We offer a DIY for the coolant pipes and the brakes are pretty simple. To view the thread with some of the Cayenne concerns Click Here.

I'm actually not that mechanically inclined, prob an oil change at the most...

I sent the cost info to the owner of the Turbo S last night, and haven't heard back. I'd be looking for a 10k discount...

So now I'm looking at a 06 Turbo, CPO with some warranty time left on it.

I think your best beat would be to try to get a CPO one if it's within your budget. Just make sure you take your time and get the one you want. The best of luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Ok..
-The 06 Turbo is a CPO being sold with 2 year warranty.
-Coils replaced
-Good rubber
-Brakes 70% (parts were ordered in 2010 BUT NO HISTORY OF INSTALL)
-Original Coolant hoses

Will the brakes last the remaining 70% without replacing the rotors/calipers?
If the coolant pipes blow up, is the replacement under the warranty?

ALSO, SAYS THAT THERE IS OIL "LEAKAGE" AROUND THE TURBOS. (would this be covered with warranty) and if the car is a CPO, why hasn't it been fixed yet?
Mechanic said "sign of things to come". What is coming?????

Thank you so much for your responses.

I'm looking for a 06 or newer, but I will keep it in mind.
Are you the original owner?

Also a 2 year CPO warranty is tough to beat...

If it's in your budget get the Turbo S. The turbo is amazing but will probably just leave you wanting more. I don't think you're going to get that 10k dollar discount, but once you take care of that stuff the car is going to be solid for a really long time, I just hit 150k on my 04 CTT, hopefully will be upgrading intercoolers soon but will always be wishing I had that Turbo S suspension....

I did not get the 10k discount, it was sold!
Still working on the CPO Turbo, guy will not come down on the price.
It comes with the full 2 year warranty with 30K to go...
I thought the "S" was just more HP and much better (more expensive) brakes?
Suspension goodies too? What else?

The Turbo S got different front lower control arm bushings, different front struts, different level control module, different tie rods, and a different cardan shaft.
