No dealer involvement or recording needed. Buy some type if ballast, remove old and install new one, and you're done.
If your car is older than 5 years, be very careful when doing this job. Wiring inside headlight becomes very brittle, and insulation flakes off. Then you will h as very all sorts of shorts that will manifest in multiple ways, as well as dead ballast and blown fuses too.
