Door Ambient Lighting Issues - Anyone with experience???
Guys, need some help. My 05 CTT is at the dealer, one item I am having them look at is the ambient lighting, NONE of the door arm rest ambient lights are working (you know, the ones in the space between the door card and the arm rest. After ~5 hours they have been unable to find anything as to why they are not working (I wasnt expecting to be looking into these for 5 hours!!!). All of the door pull handle lights are working, overhead lights are working, the foot well lights are working, and I can dim and brighten them no problem. every other damn light works but these.
So far, they are seeing no power to the door armrest ambient lights, so something central? By why are none of the other ambient lights affected? Ugh, another simple yet complicated problem.
I have a similar issue with a couple small differences. Occasionally, the lights will flicker with the door open. I used to think it was the drivers door, but it can be any door (I just used the drivers door most). Also, the rear dome light stays on when I'm driving, and off when the door is open. It wasn't always like this - it started intermittently and became permanent. Pretty clear that it's an electrical short.
I had a mechanic spend an hour or two looking for the cause be he wasn't able to find it. I'll have to tackle it myself when I have time (and have gotten through the list of other things to fix).
There is supposedly a bundle of wires under the passenger footwell that is prone to corrosion, which can cause issues like this. That's the first place I will look.
Will do, its going back monday for them to fix. I think the dealer messed up something.
im leaning towards programming since they messed upv the door locks last time when they replaced the driver door switch assembly, or the shorted out the comfort module or kessy module.
I have a turbo so the gap between all 4 door armtest and door cards have an oramge ambient light, along the whole armrest gap. As well as the footwells, door pulls, probably something else im forgetting.
the only ambient lights not working for me are the door armrest ones.
believe ambient ligjts are on option on S or base models, so not all have them

I have a 2005 turbo model, only the doorhandles have the ambient light, nowhere else. Does the ambient light in the foot wells use the same bulbs as the foot well lighting when you open the door? Is there anything in the door armrests that I can see by pulling off the trim pieces to see if there’s even any lights back there? I do have a gap on all four doors.
To be honest, im not sure what the arm rest lights actually look like, as you can see them other than if on and working, and ive never pulled a door card or armrest. Im guessing they are LEDs.
guess no one else really knows or cares cause ive gotten very little feedback on other boards as well as here.
The dealer confirmed the lights just arent getting power, so im guessing its something central like the comfort module.
the footwell lights in back have a central lense under the rear bottoms of the front seats, and are amber like the door pull lights. The fronts are under the dash. You have the overhead console switch to turn them on and off,,plus another switch to dim or brighten them, as well as the arm rest lights.
the lights on the bottom of the door panels are normal standard lights that come on when opening the doors as do the overhead lights, however the footwell lights do come on when you open the door.

Sorry for the delay, so this isnt from my actual vehicle, but it was a good picture, and it is exactly the same:
Circled in blue is the button that you can continue to press till you get the desired brightness level, once you hit max brightness, it then starts to get dimmer with more presses, till it turns off.
In red is the button to turn the ambient lights completely on and off.
Now I cant say for sure how the door armrest ones work, as I cant remember since mine no longer work, and I always had them on and at max brightness, but I recall them working with the buttons I mentioned above, dimmable and could be turned on/off.
The footwell lights work with these switches as well.
In VCDS, you can choose if you have the interior lighting feature. Maybe it is unticked in your cars computer. Last weekend, I played a little with this settings with the VCDS programming tool, and my interior lighrs went out, when playing with it..
Maybe yours is switched off, and needs switching on, using a vagcom like durametric or vcds?
You can find this option in "instrument cluster" in your vagcom
Thanks, that's great info!
question is, whenb you unticked the interior lights did they all go out or just the ambient lights inb the armrests?
is the setting only for all lights on or no lights on?
all my Other ambient lights work ok, just not all 4 of the door armrests,
Itsc at the dealer now, cause all kinds of wierd stuff happened after I took it their last, so its their responsibility to fix it. Latest word is the rear comfort control manual wont hold its coding, so they are going to replace it,
ill post back if it works.

Ok, because I understand your love for your Cayenne, I will test it for you tomorrow, with my vagcom 😏 There are several light options, which lights your want to go on when you unlock the car, etc.
1 option in special, concerning "interior confort lighting"
I do love my cayenne, so much i cant take it when one little thing like ambient lights dont work
I have an icarscan, sounds like I need to upgrade to a better programer,.
What exactly do you have, and what all can it do, or maybe easier what cant it do?
This kind of options.. Our Porsche Cayenne Turbo 2005 is very simular to the VW Toureg. Allmost all the codea working voor the Toureg, also work for our Cayenne.. This week I removed the seatbelt chime, removed the "Service in 2600km" and lowered the Cayenne, using Vcds, and nothing else. Very happy with it :-)

So I have the button in the red, but not the blue. The red button only seems to switch a relay and the only thing I can see come on or off at night is the lower center console light.. nothing else..
Thoughts? I'm in the Everett/Seattle WA area and current;y don't have access to a VCDS.. Not sure if mine even came equipped with the ambient light package....
