1st service (1 yr or 12k)
When i bought my car the dealer told me the only service needed would be in 1 year or 12,000 miles. But my parents are saying not to wait so long and that its important to change the oil atleast at the first 3,000 miles. What do you guys think? Should i wait the year or change oil at 3,000 miles? And is it ok to change oil at a normal place like jiffy lube or Midas etc.?
If i change oil at 3,000 miles do i still need service A from Porsche? What does this service consist of?
thanks,
BD

Do not change your oil at Jiffy Lube or midas. It is synthetic oil and really only needs to be changed at 1 year or 10/12k if you drive in stop and go. The factory actually says 1 year or 20k on the Cayenne. The old idea of every 3000 miles was based upon traditional oil and engine designs and hasn't applied to porsches using synthetic in years.
Expect $200-300 for the oil change due to the cost of synthetic and parts. While this may sound high, it's really equal to four $50-75 traditional oil changes at every 3000 miles. Think about it that way... total cost of ownership.

I'd be scared to death of Jiffy Lube/Midas or whatever... this is not your 1968 Camaro that you turn a plug, drain and fill...
There are multiple gaskets, parts and procedures involved here and I'd never risk it. Imagine a stripped out fitting... imagine the cost of parts to fix it from your Porsche dealer.

I wouldn't necessarly call them the Stealership. The parts are expensive, they have to have tech's that are paid more than Jiffylube's highschool dropouts and the cost for the building and facilities alone are a lot. I bet you a guy who owns a Jiffylube franchise makes a lot more money than the guy who owns a porsche franchise.

Stealership was intended as a generalization of all all dealerships of all brands, not just Porsche serivice departments... I highly doubt that a Jiffylube franchise makes more than a Porsche franchise because Porsche has a much higher profit margin, but thats another story...

Well going by the manual the car will tell you when, my first was 20K and the second at 40K. I do not drive it like I stole it (most of the time) and no track. You get the warning about 1500 miles to go.
The service costs about 300 for the first and 450 for the second which includes a bunch of other stuff Jiffy Lube are not equipped for, like system software updates and other diagnostic and preventative stuff.
Stick with your dealer.

jiffy if i remember correct can't even change the oil, and also will not have any equipment to reset computer. as for oil change i just follow the reminder on the screen when needed, is best rule of thumb to go by,,base on your drive style.
