Front plate needed in MA?

Do any of you living in Boston know whether the front plate is needed? Because it is really ugly to have it on (too bad I had my dealer drilled the holes on the first day I had the car)

thanks for the site but it doesnt say that it fits Cayenne...

Do they ever catch you just because you don't have it on? Should I just take it off and put it inside my car? In case they catch me, I'll just say that its loose

DEETZ:

I do not run a plate on the front of my car either. Just be sure to keep the plate inside the vehicle next to you (inside the passanger seat is a good idea). Worst thing that can happen is a $50 fine. Just tell them your front bracket broke off or something of the sort.

Technically speaking, the law doesn't require everyone to have a front plate in MA. The older plates with the green numbers were issued as rear only and are grandfathered. If you have one of these plates you can transfer it from car to car and not need a front one. You can also get on the RMV waiting list for one of these if you don't have one.

That said, none of my cars has a front plate with new plates on them. I have never been cited. I once got pulled over for "street racing" and he added it on the citation...but he later convered the whole thing to a warning after we chatted for a while roadside. Otherwise I've never had a problem. But I do carry the front plate in the car unbder the seat just incase. But yeah, I'd rather a random $50 fine than a plate on the front.
