Cayenne...........
dont get the 6, get the 8, personally i think porsche should be emabarassed to offer a car that is so heavy with such an underpowered engine. I have the 8 and it is awesome, drove the 6 as a loaner, terrible!
Cayenne 6
The 6 is a horrible car, its so under powered that it feels dangerous when you have to cross junctions or pull out into traffic, the Tiptronic starts off in second. If you remember to switch it down into first its OK, but I kept forgetting. It feels like they used the same map for the V6 shifts as they did for the 8 and the 6 just doesn't have the low down torque to get up and go.
I bought a TT, I wanted an S but got such a great deal, only down side is that I get 11.8 mpg which is pretty painful but it is a wonderful package, the 6 I borrowed from the dealer returned 15.8.
don't get a 6, get an 8 really

What are you getting from yours turbo187?
I pushed mine on the wife on the grounds that it would get good gas mileage, she told me not to buy anything other than an S.
I told her when she complained about the fuel consumption that it was Ok, that the car was simply Irish, you know, "Likes a Drink"

6 v 8
Well this coming from a 6 owner.
I'll be very honest with you.
The 8 deffinetly has more go. But is the 6 dangerous? Not at all. Once you get used to the throttle, it drives like a champ.
The way I look at it, is that I used to own a '99 4runner with 180hp and it had more then enough power for what it was made for.
The 340hp S is deffinetly something that I would have wanted, but at an extra 10-14k on the price... I don't think 90hp is worth that much.
I currently have an 05' with no major problem... I am changing it within the month for another cayenne.. Originaly I had planned on getting an S... But now that I'm used to the 6... I'm going to save some dough and get another v6.
That's my 2 cents.
As with problems with the earlier cayennes... I wouldn't be able to help you. But with my 05... problems have been pretty minor.
One tweeter blew out, and some problem with my ventilation head unit (but the problem I had occured only on the manual ventilation unit.. not the dual zone climate control)
Let me know if I can help you. And if your in my area (montreal) , I'll gladly let you test drive my car for a couple days. It's riding on 22's
P.S - Don't get grey interior... it really makes the interior look cheap! (make sure you get one with xenons.. and if your not planning to get aftermarket rims... don't get the 17's... their way to small)

in answer to your actual question
there were numerous problems with the '03 models some of which lingered into '04. most of those would have already been cleaned up under warranty by now, however.
yeah, the V6 isn't THATTT bad. My 2006 starts in FIRST on a full throttle application from a dead stop. When you're simply DRIVING, going somewhere with a destination in mind in traffic you'll never even notice the power. The ONLY time you notice the POWER is partial throttle acceleration which is near nil. You must drive it like you HATE IT when you want a bit of speed. Then it's fine. And on the freeway at speed is actually where it does best. Kick it down at 65mph and it pull quickly to 90mph+. So.... a bit slow? Yes. But remember... it handles at LEAST as well as a CS or CTT on equal tires... and has better weight distribution. In my budget range I shopped X5, ML350, R350, FX35 and don't regret my choice at ALL. 99% of my driving time is spent enjoying the nice ride, the decent sounds and going somewhere. Personally I'd rather have a V6 Cayenne AND a Lotus Exige for the price of a CTT.
But that's just ME.
But that's just ME.
