First Post

Hello all, first post here. I am a huge Porsche enthusiast and have owned several over the years 944's, 944S, and Turbo, 911, Boxster S and 968. I have lurked here for a while and followed lots of thread.

I own VW V10 TDI Touareg, use it for hauling my SCCA FP car and whatever else i want to tow.

It is also a beast off road and a blast to drive, getting 25+mpg on the highway. Anyway, love the Cayenne also.

Jonathan

I have driven the V8 Touareg I owned back to back to a S, and there was little if any discernible difference, other than a little deeper exhaust note from the S. The V10 does not compare to either, the TQ is unbelievable, and even with a 6-7K trailer and car, the ONLY reason you know its back there is because the rear view mirror is obstructed, and I use Mirror extensions.

The V8 pulled it OK, but you knew you were pulling something heavy. It also searched between 5th and 6th gear at highway speed. I would place it in 5th in tip mode and leave it there.

I use a electric brake controller with the OE hitch and wiring, makes the pair work as a team.

Both. I towed our 21' larson, no big deal. Pulled much better than 1/2 ton Z71, but so did a Odyssey Mini Van.

The trailer I mentioned pulling in the previous post is a 22' enclosed car hauler, with car. I could tell no difference between it with my 1900 lb car, versus pulling it with my friends M3 3300-3400 lbs. I would say a weight of around 7.5K total weight with the M3.

I have not had the opportunity to hook up to a 747 200, but I can tell you, there i no doubt in my mind that it is possible and I did enjoy reading all the post in treads all over, Rennlist, vortex, clubtouareg and the list goes on.....

I had a great off road experience at our local off road park this weekend. High Lift offroad park in Hot Springs, AR. I went up a VERY steep incline, at a crawl in 2nd gear and the thing did not even groan. It did much better than the V8. I am bidding on a set of CT 18" wheels to put oversized offroad A/t tires on. My 17's (for off road with Bridgestone AT revos) that I had on my previous V8 would not fit due to the 330MM front rotors on the V10, same rotors as the CT if I am not mistaken. Had to sell them for pennies on the dollar because they were useless to me. If someone has a set of 19's that are just collecting dust and they want to donate to a good cause, let me know.
Click on the link and you can check out some of the photos of Porsche activities in AR and some of my ventures with the 4 previous V8 touaregs (150K miles combined). Photos of the V10 to follow soon.
