Aftermarket Technos
Aftermarket Technos
Has anyone purchased aftermarket 20" Sport Techno wheels from Ebay?
If so, how do you like them? Particularly,
1) Have you felt any difference in handling?
2) Any wheel vibratons?
3) Any difference in braking?
4) How is the ride without air suspension?
5) How is the quality of the manufacturing? If you look closely, can you tell the difference from the factory product?
6) How does the product hold up?
Has anybody bought from these guys before?

It seems like this is a good deal. $2150 including Michelin tires.
I've heard people say the aftermarket tires are heavier than the originals, but the ad says that the wheels are made to exact factory specs.
Finally, anybody tried painting these like on some of the CTTS models?

A replica wheel is NOT a replica Rolex.
The real question is, "What is the content of the alloy" and "What process was it created" and "Was it made on OE machinery"
If anyone here thinks that the Porsche wheels are made in a special Teutonic factory with half naked blonde German supermodel supervisors...lol.
The Cayenne wheels are made right next to the VW wheels, Audi wheels and probably the Skoda wheels.

anyway, i guess the reason everyone is saying don't go with replica is simply cuz u spent 50-100k on a suv and now you are gonna outfit with some replica wheels where the quality is questionable.. Is there a saying you judge a man by it's shoes?
Don't get me wrong, i know there are some good replicas and even a good example is ASA rims which are made in Korea licensed by BBS costs fraction and the build quality is very high.
I just wouldn't buy replica wheels to risk and find out, the opportunity cost is just too high.
Lots of people here buy aftermarket wheels of all kinds. Does that mean they are all at risk of getting something that is not sufficient quality? Perhaps. That's why I think a forum like this is useful to help weed out the bad apples. Interestingly, I haven't heard much real experiences with the replica Technos anywhere.
Real vs Replica
I was in the same delimma... I got a 3 year old and wife that ride in the pepper...I bit the bullet and bought the real deal at a dealership just to be safe. Did I spend more? YES. (Actually got a deal...someone just bought a CTT and swapped wheel sets for after markets.
)
But at any rate, more peace of mind...they say "Porsche" and were installed by Porsche. If Im running down the road and hit a bump...I'd like to hope that the OEM would fair better.... Then again it may be all in the mind...
But I can sleep at night.

I saw a thread on one of the forums where someone bought a set of replicas that were much hevier and bent easily. I am not saying that this is always the case, but it makes me think twice- so I bought a used from a local guy who needed the space in his garage- $500 for a set of 8" OEM Turbo wheels with a set of Pirellic Scorpion Ice & Snow with less than 1k miles on them.
