The Cayenne S or the GL450
The Cayenne S or the GL450
First off, I realize that there is a huge size difference between the two that puts them in far different classes.
With that said, we also own a 2000 Lincoln Navigator that we'll be keeping until the wheels fall off so we'll have one large SUV (which makes the Cayenne more viable). Now, does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should purchase the GL450 or the Cayenne S? I love both vehicles and its an extremely tough choice - I'd welcome any opinions on the dilemma.

I chose a GL450 instead of the Cayenne a few months ago. I did not want to have the old body Porsche. If I were to choose now I don't know what I would go for. We have 9000 miles on the GL and not a single problem. I have taken the car on the beach to test out the 4wd and it can climb dunes like crazy. I have noticed a lot of GL's recently which pisses me off. Go with a new body Cayenne just for something different.

All I will say is when I go to Mercedes for routine/scheduled maintenance they give me either a Neon or Camry with about 64,000 miles to drive with a contract as a loaner. On top of that, the paperwork is always screwed up and they don't call when the service is complete. It usually takes about 3 days of immense hassle to get the oil changed? When I drop my Porsche off it is like a well oiled machine. They call when they say they'll call and the job is finished when they say it will be finished. I also always get a fully loaded Cayenne S just like ours as a loaner. No contracts with Enterprise rental car like at my local Mercedes dealer. Which I will add I was charged for the loaner camry and took 6 months to get reimbursed from the MB dealer. The whole experience is like night and day. So, to the point. Porsche all the way. That being said, this is a particular scenario from two specific dealers and things could be much different elswhere. Buy what suits you best. I just know from my experience that owning the Porsche is much more rewarding and hassle free. I love my Cayenne more and more everyday
