Thinking of pulling the trigger on 23" Rinspeeds from WheelsExperts.... but I am debating if I should order them with TPS or not... will I get any warning lights if I change the factory wheels with wheels that does NOT have TPS... Thanks!

 

Assuming that the 2008 TPMS system is the same as the pre-2008 TPMS system (which I believe is a reasonable assumption), if the TPMS system is active and sensors are not present on your wheels, you will receive an error message (complete with loud beeps) after approximately five minutes of driving. You can turn the TPMS system off, although you will always get a "TPMS" system off warning (with no beep I believe) when you start the car.

I would highly recommend the TPMS sensors in larger wheels due to the fact that is very difficult to visibly see when your tire is low on air because of the slim tire profile and stiff sidewalls. I have them on my 22-inch wheels in my CTT.

On a side note, I found that TireRack had the best prices on the OEM sensors (they're Borsch parts) should you need to source them.

I vote NO. I de-activated mine.
Its preset WAY too high. No way that 45lbs in the rear is required. Crazy.

 

how do you deactivate it? is it in the tire options?

 

Also know that 2003-2006 is first gen TPMS, and 2008-up is second gen TPMS. Not compatible.

Yeah, that I can't guarantee. Feds made TPMS mandatory in '08 (or thereabouts), so it might not be in Menu.

Regardless, Dealer (or anyone with proper S/W equipment) can turn it off.

If you have OCD, do not get TPMS LOL It will drive you nuts if your tires aren't matched in terms of the air pressure! haha

Honestly think you have to be an idiot to disable the system.

We drove from Sante Fe, NM to Denver, Co a few years ago in our Audi A6 Avant. Filled up with gas that morning and checked the tire pressures since we would be on the road for 5 hours. Tires were only about 2 months old.

3 hours after checking the tire pressures we lost a tire at 85 mph. Must have picked up a nail or ??. Driving on it that fast and it going low detroyed the tire. The only thing left of the tire was the steel belts of the side walls.

With the low profile tires it was hard to tell if it was going low with the cross winds on the highway. Spent the next 4 hours driving on the stupid space saver spare. Totally sucked to have to get my dogs and all of our stuff out of the back of the car on the side of the freeway to access the spare.

If we had known it was going low we could have stopped and fixed it somehow before the blow out. Could have been a life changing, dying, event.

I would rather put up with the warning lights and chimes for running *my* pressure settings, than not have the system on at all. Not to mention it helps me get longer tire life and save money by knowing when one tire is running low all the time.
