2011 S with 20 or 21s?

Greetings all. I have a a Jet Black with Black Leather S on order with a November build date. Very excited. I was pretty solid on all my options although I am struggling with either the 20s Spider wheel or the 21s Turbo wheel. My eyes tell me that I want the 21 turbo wheel but my mind tells me to get the 20 spider. I live in NY and don't really plan to drive it all that much in the snow as I also have a Land Cruiser. So forgetting about bad weather for a moment can anyone weigh in with the everyday driving 20 vs 21s. I currently have the 20s on order but may have a few days before my lock in date. Many thanks.

Get a 18 inch wheel/tire package from Tirerack (not very expensive). For your custom order go with the 20 inch with summer performance for rest of the year. If you order summer performance with stock wheels you cannot drive it even when roads are clear during winter given the rubber compound of those tires. If you get all seasons you are compromising all year long.

What 18" wheels/tires winter package did you get? With TPMS, it seems at least 2k plus.

Yes it was just a tad over 2K with the TPMS for the winter set up using these

I like the OZ wheels that are made in Italy and have it on my C4S. It is reasonably priced too.

OZ are good quality wheels. What tires do you get? I assume you are getting the TPMS on them too?

OK. I'll ask the dumb question and maybe it's because I'm in S. CA but... why cant' you drive a Cayenne S in the winter on the 21" wheels/tires?

I know they're "summer" tread tires but I got stuck driving my 2008 997S in the rain more than once and it did very well in the rain. Granted, I slowed down (as any sane individual would) and it wasn't my wifes Audi but it was fine. Am I missing something here?

I'm assuming (hate to do that) you didn't order PCCBs. If you did, then you must order a 20" wheel & tire package for winter. Last week I ordered a 19" package from Damon at Tire Rack after much discussion. I told him that I had a set of 19' wheels and tires from my '09 Cayenne Turbo S with PCCBs and they would not fit on the '11. We just igured it was a problem with the specific wheel (non OEM) I had. The next day he called to tell me they just figured out that their 19s won't fit over PCCB's either. I had to order a 20"package. OZs w/scorpions. ~3800.00 with the tire pressure monitors. Moot point if you don't have PCCBs but just wanted to let you know in case.

21's alll the way, no problem, you have enough wheel well to put a meaty tire on those 21's so they dont bend..... but 20's are cool as well, but i would definitely go 21....

So Cal should not be a problem. Other places ehn the temps dip below 40 degree F, the rubber compound on the summer tires hardens like an hockey puck and that is outright dangerous to drive. Some people drive it slow till the rubber warms up after a few miles but I would not take that risk. BTW, congrats on the new addition to the family. I wish you could keep your stunning silver/red killer combo 997. Don't worry, the Cayenne will more than delight you.

I think the So Cal "winters" aren't real winters with snow and temps lower than say 45F in the middle of the night. The lowest I've seen around here is 26F driving back from Vegas at 1am. Summer tires are great for wet weather as well. Just not ice or snow which we hardly ever get here.

I was actually more concered about the ride. But seeing the tire size on the 21's, they actually have decent sidewalls to them; Meatier than the stock setup on my M5. So given the CS' more compliant suspension, I figure they provide a very decent ride and have more than enough protection for our roads here.

I was stuck on the same dilema too! Was torn between the look & praticality? But after doing some research, I was able to find the look I want with the 20's along with very affordable tires to go with it.
Just from practical point of view, the 20's offer lots of cheaper replacement tires(approx. $500/each) vs. the 21's($1000+/each) according to tirerack.com~

Where did you get these prices? The most expensive N rated tire in 21 inch for the Cayenne (that I can find) is the Yokohama ADVAN Sport at 514.00.
