totally different vehicle, but if handling is important to you, go with CT.

really??? you think Cayenne's handling is better than the AMG? Because I have found so many videos/articles saying that the E63 is a very good handling car. Where would you base your comment on?

Do you think that the AMG handles better than the Cayenne?

What do you base this assumption on?

I sold my 2010 E63 AMG to get the new CS-which will be here in 2 weeks. While the amg was growing on me after some initial disappointment, I just preferred the fit (i am like the princess and the pea) handling, ease of use of the Cayenne. I was doubly sold after driving the CT on the autocross course and the Cayenne off road at the 2 day porsche sport driving school. The amg seats were ok but too firm, worse mileage than CS, and I just didn't like the steering-only felt right when at speed or driving hard. Maybe I am too used to BMW's but I find the mercedes take too much concentration to avoid the wandering wheel.

Now, in about two weeks I'll know if I got it right. If not- my wife will probably whack me before I buy the new M5.

amg makes very nice engines... but in general mercs are very very heavy.
they are known for fast straight-line because of massive engine.
merc were never known for handling because of weight, suspension, and
chassis.
I never drove 63 wagon, so i may be wrong but highly doubt that they are great
handling car.

agree- never thought it was a great handling car. Just not sure how to compare to CS without more seat time.

E63 Wagon is a beast; shame it is no longer available in the US. I desperately sought one out (before the current model) but they were special order only and MBUSA sold about 45 of them a year.

Granted this was 2 years ago and both the Cayenne and the E63 have been completely redesigned. I now have a 2010 E63 Sedan. It is hands-down a better car than the previous and IMO will out handle a Cayenne (even a new Turbo).

It doesn't take a physics expert to tell you that with similar horsepower, for driving pleasure, the weight difference alone should push you to the Merc, let alone lower center of gravity, rear-whee drive.....

The real deciding factor should be what you plan to do with it. If you need/ want any of the following, go with the Cayenne, if not, definitely the AMG:

ground clearance
4wd
towing ability
fjording rivers
really like rear wipers
large cargo carrying needs

With the exception of gas mileage, I could not disagree with you more. The seats in the 2010-11 E63 are not firm unless you're spec'ing comfort seats. They are excellent. As for the steering, my 2007 E63 was "yacht-like". The new model however is, no 997 but, excellent and I've never sensed a "wander".

Don't undestimate the AMG 6.2 V8

Some people may laugh when you mention the Mercedes R class failure....BUT.....I have an R63...0-60 in 4.6, AWD, 6 passenger. It's great since I've got toddlers...

I've run against a stock 2008 Cayenne Turbo, and my AMG Minivan beats it at any speed, 0-60, 60-100 etc. Handling wise, since my R63 is lowered, the CTT has nothing on it. There is no replacement for displacement.

2011 Cayenne Turbos on the other hand...I am not qualified to say...but point is....

You can't go wrong with either, especially an E63 Wagon.

"Make a profit later".......

And when we don't make a profit because no one wants our product "R class"....we dump the project.

Any suit can drive a merc. It shows a real driver to go CS/T. Haha got you. That's why I sold my Eclass and have my '06 CS.

So very true. I respect the overwhelming desire to make everything very fast and sporty more than wonder why on Earth they would build it. And frankly, given it's so similar to the ML and everything else, there was no reason not to, it was handled as special order only so it's not like they had excess of them sitting around. But I like the R-Class in general, it's a great vehicle, but I think the market they were hoping would buy it preferred the more traditional ML and GL. And the market that bought the Pacifica couldn't justify the MB price tag. But the R-Class's dismal residuals make it a great value on the used market.

This is epic, I salute you. Waste an unsuspecting Corvette for me one day.
