Oil usage Just got 2011 CS 4 weeks ago. During first 1250 miles needed 3 qts of oil. Is this normal?

i added 1 qt at about 950 miles, now at 1400 miles seems to have used 1/4 qt more. this topic was brought up in rennlist and most guys seems to have evaporated 1 qt in about 1000 miles. 3 quarts seems a lot, no one posted that high oil burn.

I am at 1200 miles on CS and have only used 1/4 of a quart.

Guess I should drive it harder or feel fortunate

Just added my 3rd quart at 2700 mi. to my CTT. Not sure I trust the electronic dipstick. Seems to go from down 1/4 qt to down a full qt in very short order.

How do you know you need to add oil without the electronic dipstick or a warning message? I am on 1400 miles and only down 1 notch on the dipstick

I think you are correct. Was running late for a Celtics game, so kept up with the flow of traffic in Mass., fast lane on Rt 3, 90 MPH, LOL. Of course with the Turbo's gearing that's only 2000 RPM.

Well, you've hit the nail on the head. All you can do is rely on the electronic dipstick. Once you get down a qt the warning message will appear.

so you mean 1/4 qt cause adding 4 qts seems a lot.

Wow! 4 qts in 1000 mi. Any visible leaks on the ground under the car? If the car continues to use that much it is a definite warranty issue, as Porsche specs. that 1 liter per 1000 km, ie 1 qt per 600 miles is allowable.

none so far, and all seems fine. I assume I would see a leak if I added too much. Silly question but how do you know if you added too much

Didn't the warning light come on when it was 1 qt low? Does the oil level even show 4 quarts low or did you keep adding till it showed the right level. I've read in other forums that it takes a while for the sensor to start reading the correct level once you add the oil. If you kept adding oil because it wasn't reading it full at the time you might have added too much. I would go to the dealer and have them check it out or do a quick oil change.

Like gammaman said, if your Porsche is losing 4 quarts at 1000 miles there must be something wrong.

I'm pretty sure there is a warning message for oil overfill. I remember the manual saying to go to the dealer to get it drained down if that is the case,
