DVD Unlock

Does anyone know about the DVD Unlock for the new Cayenne. My Sales person told me when you get the bose system, because the drive supports DVD there is a MOD you can do so you can watch DVD in motion.

Most of the stock systems that have DVD are connected to the brake/park transmission function. Any decent shop should be able to bypass it.

Now on to my "words of wisdom". Don't do it, there really is no reason for you to have a movie playing while you are driving. I had this ability in one of my vehicles way back in 98 when it was all the rage, and I will tell you that you may think it won't be, but it is distracting as heck. I found it so annoying after a while that I pulled it and have never thought about doing it again.

Do not disagree with your points, I would say I have a wife and two kids in the car and it would be nice for them. I already have something like this in my Expedition.

Easy as in I could install it myself without having to remove stuff? Or easy as in taking it to a shop? How much is it?

My old gs450h had a screen unlock thingy.

You could touch the 4 corners and then the top an bottom of the right and it would unlock the DVD while driving.... It was a mechanics bypass.

Maybe there is something like this???....

The current discussion would be about a 2011 or 2012.

I have a 2012 Cayenne S on the boat. I ordered the Bose system and the rear seat entertainment. I want to be able to play video in the front. (why does Porsche put in a dvd audio only player in the front?) I called CarTronic and they have an AV Input Kit for $900 that they say can being the audio and video from the rear-seat dvd players to the front screen. Does anyone have any experience with these? I am also considering adding the HDTV tuner.

Reason I asked about the 2012 is because when I talked to cartonics in the past about this, this is not an unlock for the existing equipment, but an AV input module that needs to be added.

My preference would be an unlock for the existing equipment.

So I am clear. So you have an unlock device that will unlock functions so that they behave like when you are in park. But, it will not unlock the built in DVD player as this does not support Video playback.
(BTW, how many functions are currently locked out in motion, coming from Lexus, it seems that the PCM is pretty open in motion)

Thus to get video in the car you would have to add a video module that has av input to have video in motion.
