I opted for this after seeing a member on another forum with it. Love it. Took this pic to demonstrate just one of the reasons why...

Wasn't a $$ issue just never thought I'd want it or use it, but this is one option I do wish I had!
Oh well

Yeah. I didn't think I would either, until I saw that other pic. When I did, I definitely spec'd in on the replacement 2012. Love it...

I don't believe so. I believe the railings have to be fitted at the factory.

Looks practical. Do the railings ever get in the way?
Is it always set up or do you have to put it together each time you want to use it?

I have the same luggage management system, almost the same parts, on my previous 08 VW Passat Variant.
Yes it is useful and flexible to use but it was a standard with the car.

Definitely does look handy, as things do tend to slosh around in the back. Seems like the rail may get in the way when not in use? Seems like a great option assuming it doesn't reduce the amount of cargo capacity.

Since I didn't spec mine with it and felt I needed something back there, I opted for the cargo net. It holds down the groceries and you can throw stuff on top of it when you don't need it.

The rails on the side are permanent. The horizontal rail can some out. There is a point towards the rear of the railing where, if you put it in that position, can lift straight up and out.

Pics this afternoon...

I always keep the Sam Adams on the seat next to me.
Much easier to reach if you are texting and drifting at the same time.

How does the cargo net work? Pretty effective? Is this something that you just buy at the dealer and add on? Also how much is the net?

I've been toying with getting a small plastic "basket" so that things don't go all over the place but the net seems more practical.

It has plastic hooks that go into the latching points in the cargo floor. Definitely serves its purpose and works well. The net itself is a durable elastic, check the link below, $89 from Suncoast and u can see how it installs. The problem with a basket is it would also slide around...
