So do think that they charge to much for an oil change at the dealer? I have had a BMW, Audi, and Benz but none of them charge $500 for an oil change. I wish they would pretend to do more at least throw in a real detail to make me feel I got something out of it.

$500 for an oil change? For that I'll drive down to DC and do it for you!

Just for reference on the high side Mobil1 would be $10/qt and max a filter would be $20. Then figure $90/hr for a tech to do the change. The Cayenne at max takes 9/qt's. So at MAX I would think you are at or just under $200...but thats just me.

Yes. Most Porsche dealers charge around $300 for this service and even that is overpriced. They dress it up as a "K Service", like a 10K service. But if you ask what is in the service besides inspections and fluid top offs you will find there is nothing - and most shops do inspections at no cost when a car is in. A good independent will do all of this with equal or better quality and more conveniently to you for about $200.

More fundamental: Find a reliable Porsche or German car independent with knowledge, equipment and integrity then establish a long term relationship - don't shop for price but for value. This overall approach will serve you best (by far) in the long run. ONLY go to the dealer service department for warranty work. You do not need to do any work at the dealership except for warranty work, campaigns, updates and recalls - all of which are paid by the manufacturer to the dealer. You may want to do an oil service there for convenience at the first 10K mark to get any updates and campaigns knocked off - but you can take the car in for updates and campaigns and recalls without having to do customer pay work along with it.

I was charged $350 in the NY metro area. I thought that was a ripoff - I did it only b/c it is still under warranty.

I took my Turbo S to Porsche West Houston where I bought it and had the 10k service and paid less than $300.

I hope you didn't buy the car there. That has got to be a new record price for oil change.

If you look at the DIY article that was posted here, it's not much more complicated than oil change on any car. The only thing that might cost more is the synthetic oil but that ain't $500 either.

Yes it is too much. I think they put the filter in such an absurd place to discourage DIYers from trying.

Kudos to Ken Brookings. Sir, that was a compete and informative reply. I purchased the 4 year service programme when I bought the new 2011 CTT about six months ago. Yet, I do believe in oil changes every six months or more frequent - I do the same for my AMG (only about $150 with vehicle inspection) at the local Mercedes dealer. Traditionally, I have always had all work completed at the dealer, I have been a life long AMG and Mercedes owner, but now with the CTT, I will take Mr. Brookings' observations to heart and wallet, and visit several of the independent Mercedes / Porsche / German vehicle specialists in the Puget Sound area. Off topic, regardless of cost, I believe changing oil regularly is the one substantial thing an owner can do to maintain the performance, "vitality", and longevity of a vehicle, regardless of brand or make, from KIA to Porsche. I have passed all my AMGs to my sons, siblings, and my in-laws. And I ensure they continue my philosophy when we shake hands on passing the vehicles on to them. And they have learned that I do verify thier compliance. All run and perform like the day I purchased them (or more accurately, 2000 miles from the day I purchased them). So, SDA196 who started this string, and all who have added thier informative comments, are obviously doing the very best thing possible to maintain the Cayenne's "pop" and reliability, and all deserve kudos for going the extra step in ensuring the performance and upkeep of our phenomenal Porsche's. I hope whomever purchases your vehicle way down there in the future will appreciate the far greater value and performance that those extra couple hundred dollars deliver. Thanks. And kudos to all.

my dealer quoted $580 for my 10k service which is just oil and fluid top offs, they also said they would check the filters, sunroof seals, etc etc. i was in shock at the price though, im going to find a good German car mechanic im my area.
