Snow shoe talk time again...
Snow shoe talk time again...
I looked into this last year but never did anything. I have 20" RS Spyder wheels w all season stock tires and the few times I drove it in the snow last season, I was NOT impressed. Thinking I should either put on better snow tires this year or get a set of dedicated 18 or 19" rims with snow tires. I just haven't found a set of 18 or 19" rims that look cool and are not a complete rip off.
Suggestions??? What have you done that you are really happy with? By the way, my Pepper S is black w black trim.

Forgot the looks and get the 18" winters (if you have the 380mm brakes, you will need 19" to clear).
The reason why 18" are better is because they have a narrower cross-section that "cuts" into snow, instead of riding on top and sliding around like the 21" stock setup. Anything in the middle is a compromise.
I feel better knowing my family (and CTT) is the safest possible on a dedicated 18" winter setup. Looks are for the summer

I just got a 2013 CTT with 21" wheels, and PZEROs
I dont plan on doing a lot of bad weather driving with the car, as I'm only a 1/2 mile from RR for dailt commute, and roads in NY are plowed real quick. Nevertheless I am picking up 4 Pirelli Ice and Snow 21" today and will put them on mid to late October.
Will have the car in Florida for parts of the winter and dont want to give up that cool 21" look

Give me a call. I have both wheels and tires that will fit over the brakes fine. Winter stock is beginning to come in. Now is a great time to start thinking about it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I need to run 20's in the winter due to my large BBK up front in my Cayenne S. That being said, I used to run 18 inch winters on my V10 TDI Touareg and switched to 20 inch winters. I know theoretically the 18's should be better but, running narrow 20's showed little to no decline in foul weather performance. Just my $.02
The Turbo S has the largest stock Brembos (not sure about ceramics) with 380mm 2-piece rotors and have a 19" high-clearance spare in the rear instead of the 18" spacesaver in the Turbo. I suppose you either checked an additional box in your option-sheet or upgraded later to the 380mm setup. Many people think that only 20" rims will clear these brakes, but the right high-offset 19" setup will clear - as evident of the 19" spare provided by Porsche NA.
Additionally, you cannot get a 20" setup with as narrow of a cross-section of an 18". Any difference might be nominal depending on conditions, however, it might make the difference between getting stuck and not; Or sliding off the road or not. I think I am just traumatized by the NE 2010 winter.

No worries - we all have different perspectives, just trying to provide facts here.

Anyway...I was just pointing out that 20's (with the right rubber) can be more than capable in the snow.
I use 20 inch Dunlop 3D's that preformed really well last year. I have a dedicated winter wheel/tire setup. Anything smaller wont clear my ceramics.
Before these I used perelli ice and snow on a dedicated 18 inch wheel/tire set for my GTS, those were flawless!
Good luck

+1 for Pirelli Ice and Snow. After researching here and elsewhere last winter I chose this Pirelli as well on 19" wheels and they were exceptional in snow and ice, including a good amount of vertical terrain.
