Cayenne Diesel MPG. Post yours:

Bought my Cayenne diesel a little over a week ago and thought I would post my real world mpg numbers and the computer numbers too.

Firstly, I really like this SUV. I drove the Cayenne S and decided against that because the abruptness or jerkiness of the shifting (probably spoiled by my Panamera4S PDK). The Diesel seems to handle it a lot better, probably due to the shifting is being done at lower RPMs. I also did some mountain pass driving and was very impressed with the intuitive shifting. It wasn't searching for gears during my climbs The Torque of this Cayenne at low RPMs makes this Cayenne a pleasure to drive.

MPG. PCM stated 31.4mpg average over this tank full.

I drove 691 miles on this tank. Filled it up with 23.5 gallons.
Real world averaged of 29.4mpg

(When I filled it the reserve light was on and the SUV was showing a range of 90 miles.)

Mixed driving. About 500miles on HWY climbing Colorado's Eisenhower Tunnel which is at about 11k feet twice. The rest of the miles were city.

Impressive on the first tank of this new Cayenne D!

That is impressive. I'll be interested to see if you find that the engine loosens up and breaks in, providing better mileage over time. All of my diesel trucks have been that way, showing increasing mileage all the way to about 15K miles.

Thank you for posting, also interested in the MPG after you get a few miles on. Still very impressive for such a large vehicle.

We've only filled up once so far, but I didn't fill it so I can't calculate exactly what we got. I think the PCM showed 21+ but it was all city. I'll pay more attention to the next tank.

Only have 1200 miles on mine, averaging 27.2 mpg overall so far. Right out of the box I've seen over 33 already, better than the 2011 Touareg TDI that I had previously. Traded that one at 17,xxx miles; long term average 28.2 mpg. It's been stated that optimum fuel economy isn't returned by this engine until 35,000 miles. So at this rate, my CD should be averaging well over 30 by then.

Tomorrow will be two months since I picked up my CD. I'm averaging right at 24 mpg for all around driving, and I've logged 31+ mpg on a long trip. That seems to be the norm.

FYI:

Took a closer look at my tires to see what the cost would be to replace them or even go with another possible tire. This after I found the car was Hydroplanning a little to easily on the first rain.

Found out they are LRRs. Low Rolling Resistance tires. Wonder how much that helps in MPG?

Those are some great numbers. I have an S and if I'm cool and not trying to 0-60 everywhere, I can easily get 18 + in the city. Even doing 70+ on the freeway, I've gotten 23-24 MPG, depending on terrain and temps etc..

In my 2011 turbo, if I'm on cruise control I can get 21-22mpg on flat roads at 75mph. But generally I get about 16-17mpg in normal driving.

Just wanted to do a follow-up on my 2nd tank of Diesel!

This time it was Combined driving. 1/2 hwy, 1/2 city. Took it easy for the most part, but did use sport mode in city and did some full throttle acceleration to see how this thing can move.

That being said. The PCM computer stated 31mpg. But the manual method showed 29.8mpg!! I filled it up 25 gallons worth and the trip computer stated 748 miles since I last filled up!

That means I could have gone 790 plus miles on this tank.

Very happy with the Combined 29.8mpg of this Diesel!!! Will update when I get 10k or so on this Pcar!

5k update. mpg.

I have been doing mostly combined driving. Did take a spirited drive up 1/2 way up Pikes Peak. Since I have owned it I am averaging 29.04 mpg.

Nice! Good job Porsche!

5k oil change req. $240.

Be careful in regards to amount of oil req for a diesel. Different than any other Cayenne. 7.71quarts. Dealership didn't know this and under filled it by .75qt.

It is not an easy oil to find. So be prepared to hunt or get an extra
Quart at the dealership before you leave.

Still loving this diesel!

I have an actual average of 24 and PCM average of about 26 after 3800 which included a trip up and down 95 (even with the roof box I still averaged 27 both ways!).

I've switched my path to work to use a road I hate, but I seem to (PCM) average 30 that way compared to my other route that does 22-24 (PCM). So I expect my average to start creeping up (though the AutoX in Sat probably won't help much ).

200 mile trip to Nashville yesterday saw 36 mpg; 5% city/30% TLB/65% freeway. 3800 miles since new, MFD says 29 mpg overall. Best I've seen so far is 36.2, but it seems to get better nearly every trip.

Also, I have been adding up the mpg manually. I have found my PCM is always over generous by 1.5mpg.
