Demo Vehicle

What is your opinion of untitled demo Cayennes? There is a base model with about 5k miles and a MSRP of approx 70k. The deal so far is 59500 and 62000 with CPO. The CPO cost is 2495, plus inspection fee.

The in-service date for the car is September 2012. I tend to keep my cars for a while so the CPO seems like a good idea. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

demo's are not registered so this car should have a FULL new car warranty, unless that car was actually registered?? You should not have to pay to certify the car

I thought it should have the full warranty as well since the salesperson kept emphasizing the car was untitled.

Why don't you buy a leftover 2012 brand new, never demo'd?

Personally I wouldn't want a demo'd vehicle. Who knows how its been driven since the day it hit the dealership.

Leftover 2012 can be had for close to what you are getting your demo for.

Agreed. I'd get a new one or even used instead of a demo..previous owner might have taken good care of it.

To be honest I always redline cars during test drive, though I usually wait for the car to warm up before doing so. And when I look down I see the car only has couple hundred km on it..then I feel bad for the car.

Disagree. I don't think anybody's gonna tear up a diesel demo. $59,500 is a good price, but don't fall for that CPO gimmick. At that mileage, it should still carry the full factory warranty. Or am I wrong in assuming this is a base diesel?

No, it is the base model. The balance of the factory warranty will still be in effect. My thinking was the 2500 for CPO would be cheaper than an extended warranty and that the coverage would give me 2 additional years and 50k miles.

My sales guy said an untitled car couldn't be CPOd even with the warranty punched and that only a used titled car could be certified.

Well, the basic warranty is 4yr/50k. Are you saying that another $2500 will get you 6yr/100k? I ask, because the $2500 figure represents all parts/labor required to get a used car to meet the Porsche 111 point inspection and reconditioning. Given that little or none of that would be required on a 5000 mile untitled car, they're putting that money in their pocket.

I forgot the details but Demos have a special CPO date mileage. Nothing that impressed me much. Sorry I forgot the mileage/ time frame on demo CPOs.

so it is 10k off of MSRP for a demo. what kind of discount is on a new car?

you are saving only a few grand. buy new and order the color and options that you want. a demo or even used car should be discounted far more than a few grand.

If the car is "punched" from dealer inventory then warranty starts from that date, even if its not registered. It is still considered a new car.

I've seen leftovers at 7k-9k discounts.

Greg, why don't you think someone wouldn't abuse the diesel on a test drive or dealer demo of its capabilities?
