The Panamera uses the festoon type of license plate light which is different from the Cayenne. Because of the open back design of the housing, there is no problem of over heating from the resistors. In order to avoid the error code, the LED bulb must also consume the same 5 watts of power, since LEDs consume very little power, most of the power is consumed by the resistors and the energy gets dissipated as heat.

But you need to operate the new LED lights for a while to see if the resistors over heat.

You need more time to tell. Mine didn't start to 'brown out' until a few weeks after. And it also depends how much nighttime driving is involved. Please report back later. And if everything is ok, I will buy the same ones you have.

I just checked the ECS TUNING LED license plate lights, they actually mount the resistors in a separate module away from the LED bulbs to avoid the over heating problem. But this is not a clean install when compare to a plug-and-play LED bulb module with built-in resistors.

Where do you mount the resistor modules? I see the kit comes with some plastic cable ties.

There is enough space on both sides behind the light assembly

how's the color on those ECS?

is it pure white like the OEM kind? Noticed a lot of aftermarket LED tends to be too bluish for my taste

I've had success with 5000k LED color temperature. It is as about true white as you can get. Anything above that temp you get a bluish hue. Seems to work well in the cayenne. Although the rear footwell light's wire is too short for me to swap out on my own.

For license plate LED mods, I will also say the resistor modules seperated from the bulb housing is a better bet. The heat generated from the resistor mechanism will not come into contact with the the clear plastic housing that could potentially discolor.
