Decisions.....HELP
Hi Everyone, havent posted much here but bought a 997 C2S a few years back and love it. Unfortunately bought a race car, dirt bike, kids getting older, daughter into horses etc and the 911 is becoming a drag. (Sorry not really but Im sure everyone in the Cayenne forum will understand)
Im trading it on a Base Diesel, white, beige ( Im really thinking of going 2 tone umber/light tartufo), with Air suspension and a number of other essentials. However a 6 month wait is a joke. The dealer has just traded a 2010 Turbo, 76k kms ~50k miles in absolutely mint condition. 70 year old driver who drove it up and down the highway.
So new Diesel or Turbo with what is high miles but not bad considering condition and Porsches warranty. $20k more to get into the Turbo or a brand new Diesel.
I dont need a Turbo and not going to a Cayenne for performance but then again a Turbo???
Opinions needed, Im really lost on this.
I'm a tad concerned running costs may be a bit high on the Turbo. Fuel, Tyres, Brakes (loss of licence). Then again I havent even been booked in 2 and a half years in the 911.

Well, I think this is a relatively easy choice.
I had a 2010 Cayenne GTS before I moved onto my 2013 Cayenne Turbo.
If you are comparing just the model years alone the 2013 is a HUGE step up in terms of fit and finish, the PCM, the quality of the interior pieces, gas mileage (8SP), even the drive.
I personally would skip on that Turbo and opt for the newest model you can buy, and for you...that happens to be a base diesel.
I would do that diesel without a second thought!

I've had 3 previous generation Cayennes. They are fabulous vehicles and I thought Porsche would have a hard time making drastic improvements to it with the 958. Wrong!!!! The new generation is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous one. Wait it out. It will be worth it. If you really can't wait, see if you can find a 2011.
Keep the 911 and get the Diesel. It has plenty of power to tow the 911 on those trips where packing the family into the car isn't possible
Seriously though, I have the Diesel and love it. It's not 911 (996 for us), but it can still get you in trouble with the law quick if you don't pay attention. Like every other Porsche I've driven the "I'm going how fast?!?!" response is common. I posted a thread about mounting a V1 remote display which might be applicable
Do you have a selection of dealers around you? 6 months for a Diesel sounds pretty long. Prior to the new year all 4 in my area had Diesel's sitting on the lot and you could walk in and get a build slot that was about to close.
One "hidden" cost is that they've increased the oil change interval on the US Diesel to every 5000 miles compared to the longer intervals on the gas engines.
I'd take the Diesel over the Turbo, but we were able to keep the 911 for the extreme fun car. That said, I still have lots of fun with the P!g and I've got my eye on a few tuner box options to make it a bit more fun

thanks for your input, I agree with you the new generation is much better than old one, I have the first gen, and the latest gen. the first gen, fells heavy and transmission is NOT smooth, upshift and downshift you can feel the shock(or whatever you call it), but even the 958 GTS I still think the transmission needs work, is it because it's a Japanese transmission not made by Germans? what is you thought since you own all gen Cayennes?
Sorry guys but it is the current shape Turbo Cayenne, if it was the previous one then its a definite no. Got the race car so no need to keep the 911 as much as I love it.
Dealership choice in Australia is very limited and our cars cost three times more than in the US!!!!!!!!!!
Check out prices if you dont believe me. http://porschecentrebrisbane.com.au/
Anyway thinking 4-5 years down the track Id have an 8-9 year old Turbo or a 4-5 yer old Diesel.
Has there been any upgrades to the current model that were significant over the last few years since its release?
