side view mirror distorted!

Here is a strange problem on my new CTT. The driver side view mirror is not reflecting a normal image but the image is slightly warped. I tried changing the adjustments to see if the mirror was under tension in one particular position but that didn't change anything. anyone else experience this?
I am bringing it in to be checked along with them addressing a slight dent in the door that was there when I picked it up .

If you have not already done so, try turning off the auto-dimming feature (at rear view mirror) and then check for distortion. It may be the liquid used in the photochromatic display is causing the issue. If so, that mirror may need replacing as I do not believe it is repairable.

Just a thought.

I read in one of these forums about the Europeans having different mirrors that are supposed to see more, but it is a distorted view. Maybe you got a euro-mirror by mistake?

Interesting. I just read about the anti-dazzle feature as they call it. I read how to turn it off but I know the distortion I saw was in the daytime with no headlights from behind hitting the sensor. Still I can try that tomorrow.

As far as a Euro mirror that sounds odd but who knows?

Thanks, Rob.

I like the Euro mirror. I removed the standard one as soon as my Cayenne was delivered and pop in the Euro style. The image is smaller since it is aspheric, but it eliminates the blind spot issues without the need for a stick on convex mirror. LCA helps, but it is not a cure all for the visibility issues.

Here some more discussion in the 997 forum if you are interested. I also have these on my Carrera.

Interesting. Now that you describe the aspheric mirror I can see that it is not what I have on mine.
The idea that the anti-dazzle feature might be causing the imperfect image might be the issue but I haven't got a chance yet to switch off the feature to see if the mirror starts reflecting accurately.

I just found out that Suncoast has the ashpherical mirror for the Cayenne available now, but drivers side only. I have them on my GT3 and honestly wonder why they don't have them as standard equipment. No blind spots!

I wonder how that works with the auto dimming feature though?

Strange, they sold me both sides without issue during the summer. I will try to post the respective part numbers from the boxes this weekend if it will help.

Just select the auto-dimming feature when you order it. Otherwise, works fine. The mirrors also incorporate an integral heater.

So I went to the dealer today and the service manager sat in my car and saw the slightly wavy reflection the the side view mirror gives. It happens even with the anti dazzle off. He also suggested that it might be happening because of the anti dazzle liquid in the mirror.
He asked if I wanted to sit in some other new Cayenne's to see if they have it also. I went inside 2 others that have anti dazzle and they have the same distortion as mine! So he then asked if I wanted to try it in a new GTS that didn't have the anti dazzle option and IT HAD IT ALSO !!!
So W.....T......F........? That's 4 Porsche's with the same thing! He offered to relace the mirror and I said I'll wait because if all 4 have the problem it must be the glass itself.
I mentioned the aspheric mirror and he didn't seem to know about it

My salesman saw the problem also. So are we the only people that see this? Does anyone else see this? If I sit in the car with it off and the window down and slowly move my head left and right looking at whatever is seen in the sideview mirror, the reflected image looks wavy. This is like what you would see looking through a plastic mirror that had been warped due high heat or something?? (by the way I never took LSD so its not that)

Rob

I can't say that I've noticed it, but as useless as these mirrors are I find I am looking over my shoulder more than using the mirror itself. I'll try to remember to look at it when I head home tonight.

Whatever is anti-dazzle? I thought it was a poorly translated German word. What does it do?

Now that I look at it mine is a bit wavey too, but I only notice it if I focus on one spot and move my head around. It's very subtle for me.

I looked at the flat mirror I pulled from my 2013, no appreciable distortion. Bad batch?

Drivers side Euro mirror with auto dimming and heater is 958 731 521 30. Passenger side, same features is 958 731 522 90.
