Euro aspherical driver' mirror installed (and comparison to stock)
Euro aspherical driver' mirror installed (and comparison to stock)
Got this as a gift from a friend about a month ago and finally installed it today (also by my friend). Installation was relatively easy. Aim mirror towards window as far as it goes, pop off stock mirror and remove heater connections. Attach wires on new mirror, align tabs and pop back on.
The Euro driver is both convex and aspherical (outer edge has increased curvature). Absolutely no blind spots on driver side, now I want one on the passenger side!

It is possible to adjust the standard mirrors so there is a seamless image from left side thru rearview to right side w no blind spot. The advantage is that there is less size distortion than with cave/vex mirrors. I won't review the procedure here unless ne1 needs it
My friend ordered it from the local Porsche dealer. I will post the part number tomorrow.

I was referring to the size/distance perceptual changes you get with a convex or concave mirror as distortions, not to imperfections in the mirror itself. If you like this mod great but there are no blind spots in a properly set up stock mirror arrangement. You should be able to track an approaching car from the rearview mirror into the sideview mirror and into your field of vision on either side (assuming normal biocular sight). You need to rotate the side mirrors outward to generate a seamless 180 deg field of vision. The upside is that size and distance remain more natural and consistent imo, esp. on the drivers side.

I'm wondering if these come in auto-dimming.
The issue I have with the stock mirror is more about what can I see in the traditional blind spot that is more than 1 lane over. On a multi-lane highway like the interstates, tracking a car that is over one lane in the blind spot area would require adjusting my drivers side mirror in such a way that I can no longer see my rear fender... so this is if interest to me.

One of the best safety mods that I have ever done. I remember it was a little pricey. I made a mental note at the time, that if I ever get a chance to order a new Porsche to have it equipped with these mirrors.
+1 That's true!
