Porsche just released this new engine for 2014 Panamera facelift for S model. Though GTS and Turbo stay with the same 4.8L V8 with slightly power increase.

Question: Will Porsche use this new 3.0L V6 420hp for Cayenne Facelift? It's a good fit for sport sedan like Panamera, but not sure about SUV... This is like BMW put the coming new M3's S55 turbo engine on a X5???

The new Audi 4.0T seems like a good fit for facelift Cayenne S and GTS...

That's a little low on the torque compared to the current V8, but not much. That could be easily tweaked in the ECU programming to bring up the torque number a bit.

Fewer cylinders + turbos is what we are going to see for awhile as it's the cheap method of the MFGs to meet the emissions and MPG standards while still giving people the big numbers.

I prefer N/A engines, but there are a few upsides in that the turbo engine weighs less (sometimes a substantial amount) than a N/A producing comparable power and turbo cars are cheap to tune for more power.

They don't have that nice linear power curve that lets you feel the power welling up like a good N/A though. Enough to get you going and then a sudden kick in the *** when the turbos kick in (which can be fun too, just not the same and to be fair BMW has done a great job on getting rid of the lag on their engines).

I think the answer depends on how the torque curve lines up. You need much more lower end torque for a heavier vehicle from standstill. Since they are still using the NA V8 in the Panny GTS, I think is good evidence to suggest that that engine is not going anywhere for now. Either they will tweak the V6 turbo with tuning or create a different intake manifold to better suit it to Cayenne. Or they could just use the V8 they are currently using in the Cayenne S.

So I say it is a toss-up.

Probably will. NAs will be harder to come by. All manufactuers are going the smaller number of cylinder/ turbo route.

Here are some pics of the 2015 Cayenne facelift...minor...

Isn't the V-6 turbo rumored to go in the Macan also?

For Macan the new V6TT is a perfect fit, even slightly detuned to fit SUV's power curve is OK.

my 13 s6 has zero turbo lag what so ever. im hoping the facelift cayenne s doesnt get too much changed or a way better engine than the n/a 4.8l. i barely have 3500 miles on my cs and would hate to get shafted so quickly.

For this reason, I will be holding onto my S4 V8 6speed manual. This combination will never be available again, unless there is a positive change in the laws.

Your point makes no sense. BMW already offers two turbo engines in the X5, the 3 liter 6 and the 4.4 liter 8.

Moreover, the added down low torque from a turbo is better suited to an SUV than a N/A engine anyhow.

Yeah, the current 3.0 V6 turbo diesel puts out 406 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Mine is tweaked to ~496. The V8 Euro-diesel puts out a factory 627 lb-ft. And those figures are available from as low as 1700 rpm. It's torque that tows (and produces hole shots), not horsepower.
