Auto Start/Stop never works

Hi all,

Not that I am a big fan of it, but for the last 3 months or so I have been driving with the Auto Start/Stop option turned ON just to see how it would behave (I have a Cayenne V6 2011). But I never managed to get it to work! Every single time I stop in traffic the little yellow sign pops up, indicating that the on/off function is not available. I can't figure out why:

- I tried in short trips and long trips
- Oil pressure & temperature, water temperature are in normal operation levels
- Air conditioning on and off scenarios
- Sport mode disabled

A few weeks ago I drove the car for 5 hours, including long stop/go traffic jams and it never kicked in. I decided to call the dealer (Bellevue Barrier) and their answer was "I never saw any reports like that, pretty sure an error on your side", which is a great answer to get from them.. (not surprising given past experiences I had with them as well).

Anyway, do any of you have any clues? I will drop the car for them to investigate it later this week anyway.

Not sure of the tiptronic in a V6 but if set to manual mode rather than full auto I am not sure if the function is available.

Yes, I am testing it using auto, not the tiptronic option.

Mine works every time I pull up to a red light and step on the brakes...engine turns off and back on causing my radar to reactivate every time. I rarely use it if ever though.

You wearing your seat belt? It will not engage if you're not.

Yes to all suggestions - seat belt on, PSM on, sport mode off. I left the car for the full day @ Barrier yesterday - their conclusion: They see the problem but have no idea what is causing it.

They contacted Porsche and are waiting for instructions on how to proceed.

Just to be sure, when the autostop light is ON, the Auto stop function is OFF (opposite to what one would think). Is the battery full voltage? I regularly put my car on trickle charge due to having a small refrid/freezer in back. The higher the voltage, the more likely for auto-start to function.

Yes, I am aware how the On/Off switch works, but thanks anyway. And yes, the battery levels are good as well.

I will call Barrier Porsche once again today as they were suppose to get some answers from Porsche towards the end of last week.

Update on this thread: According to the dealer, Porsche inspected the car log files and detected that the Alternator needs to be replaced. Looks like while the dashboard says that while driving I am consistently getting mid 13 to mid 14Vs, the information passed to the auto on/off control says that I am only at 12V.

Question - how complex is the alternator replacement on the V6 Cayenne? Do they have to take major parts out of the car?
