cayenne turbo after market power package
cayenne turbo after market power package
Hello All,
I'm in the market to get the best power package available without changing the car turbo. I thought about sharing my ideas with the members here and would appreciate any input from everyone. The parts i have in the list
ECU:

I don't think there is any real ECU tune so far. the only product available in the market is performance box or what is called Piggy Back. Type of ECU modules which tricks the car to boost more. Some of them require cutting wires and some are plug and play like EVOMSit, FVD and cargraphic. I believe they all work the same
Power:
FVD: 50 crank HP & + 80 crank torque gain!! sport +
EVOMSit: 80 HP & ~40 + lb/ft. TQ – Sports Plus ( with mid-pipe )
cargraphic: 70HP sport +
anyone with different brands or have tried any of the units above, please share your experience
Downpipe or primary cats :

Reducing back pressure and allowing higher follow for sure helps to gain some HP. They only brands that I'm aware of are cargraphic and supersprint. They offer 200cell downpipe and I think it should makes major power
cargraphic: 20HP - 25Nm additional Torque.
anyone knows if it Is OK to run 100 cell downpipes ?
Can dealer remove CEL if i go with catless downpipe ?
Mid-pipe or secondary cats

Minor power but it is always a plus to go with bypass pipes. They increase engine noise and not really expensive compared to other parts. Cargraphic and fabspeed offer such pipes. I believe Both are as good and as effective
cargraphic: (11PS) power and 15Nm Torque.
fabspeed: +17-20HP
Air filter

I don't think there is cold air intake system like on 955 but I think BMC filter should do the job. Anyone considering this mod, make sure the filter are not over oiled also make sure they are kept clean for best result.
BMC:
ipd plenum

never tired it and I don't think it would make significant difference. I'm sure it will not cause any power loss thu. Anyone with experience, please share
IPDPLENUM: + 25HP
Muffler

Same thing, I'm not expecting major gain but it is worth changing to have better look and sound. I'm leaning toward Akrapovic with carbon tips
akrapovic
slip on: 5.7 HP
evolution: 7.2 HP ( this should be equivalent to secondary cats delete and sport muffler )
Any tuner that would like me to try his products, please feel free to contact me. i will be more than happy to buy it and test it for a refund if there is no gain.
Let's make this thread as educational as possible, so any contribution is highly appreciated.
I will be tested each mod with vbox before and after 3 runs each time.

You didn't mention model year. Not positive, but you might want to drill down into their claims to verify which MYs they can/will flash. My experience is that flash via OBD2 on Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 was possible only through MY2010.

The thread is about 958 turbo and they confirmed it is for 958.
I quite understand that we're in the 958 category of the forum, but you'd be surprised how many 955/957 questions get mistakenly posted here. But thanks for the clarification. Reason I brought it up is that VAG/Porsche began encrypting OBD2 inputs with MY2011. From that point forward, folks had to pull their ECM/ECU and send it to tuners for bench flashing. That meant downtime for the car pending reinstallation of the ECM/ECU, which is why I went the standalone tuning box route. Hopefully "German motoring" has discovered a way around that.

GIAC for the ECU is the best choice. The cat bypass is also a good choice but the exhaust will not have any significant impact on performance but will provide for different exhaust notes. The intake plenum seems like a good choice but is pricey for what it is. The plenum is needed if intake changes are made. I found that out when I went with the EVOMS intake kit and broke the plastic intake on my previous CTT.

I have the Akrapovic, IPD and GIAC on my CTT, I'm very happy with the combo. The car is very smooth for DD and no issue so far.
Akrapovic is beautifully crafted, I almost want to install it somewhere outside so I can see it
(I have a set of the CF tip for sale if anyone is interested). The wireless function is pretty cool.
IPD works for me, GIAC & GMG tuning praised the product. I actually met Turbo Mike and have the IPD install by him on all of my cars, you should see how many of the IPD they ship out a day, but you hardly ever see a used one for sale on the forum.
IMHO, I would not go with a peggy back system. Do a search and you'll see post regards to this subject. System like GIAC is more completely integrated to the ECU and don't just intercept and alter certain signal. Peggy back might be easy to install, but a short down time in return for a better system to rest of your ownership is worth it to me. Just my 2 cent. For me the whole point of turbo cars are the awesome result from tuning.
Good luck and have fun!

I called GIAC about getting a flash for my '13 CTT and I think they haven't figured out how to do it for the '13 model. Do you know anything about it? I have been holding off to get a solid answer.
Thanks, Rob
Not likely for the '11 or '12 model either. If you've owned a small engine (push mower/string trimmer/pump/generator) since '10, you'll have realized that the EPA mandated the manufacturers make the carburetors tamper-proof. Starting with MY2011, OBD2 inputs suffered a similar indignity. The new requirement to encrypt ECM/ECU inputs from that point on - eliminated flashing via OBD2.
