Engine oil?

Just got an engine oil reach the low level message, I'm wondering what kind of oil should I get? Off the shelve mobile one (what grade)? Or I'll need to stop by at the dealership to have them top it off?

Thanks.

Mobil 1 full synthetic, if you have a VW sourced vr6 5w/30, if you have a n/a v8 or turbo 0w/40, add one quart. don't goto the dealer its pointless. o'reillys (previously kragen) is currently selling all mobil 1 oil on sale for $5.99 a quart. its the same thing that Porsche will charge you $10-12 for.

Correct. Mobil 1 0W40 is labeled to satisfy the Porsche A40 spec/approval. See http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/..._1_0W-40.aspx# //greg//

It was an oil change due message, not low oil.

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as it satisfies the Porsche A40 spec. Do you know if they pumped it from a 55 gallon drum? or used individual containers? I'd be curious of the brand name. //greg//

Ok, cuz Castrol sells quite a few 5W-40s. Hopefully it was 5W-40 Edge w/SPT. See http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp..._Sept_2011.pdf
Appears it's the only one with the A40 approval

If I'm not mistaken, A40 in 5W40 is good down to -13C, and A40 in 0W40 is considered "all temperature".

OK . Your car, your money. Given the Barnum & Bailey experiences I've had with my selling dealer, future service will be at one of their competitors. Remember; "trust, but verify".

Thanks for the tip! I picked up over 22 qts today. The 5.1 qt bottles are actually slightly cheaper per volume.

the 5.1 jugs are cheaper, but I don't think they ever sell or make 0W/40. the closest ive seen was 5 or 10w40 high mileage mobil 1. for some reason Walmart or Costco never carries the European car oil weights.
