Trailer wiring harness

In accessing the trailer wiring harness I see that after removing the plate the plug just hangs loose. Is that right ? Or is there a way to make bolt in the like the cover? Just seems really sloppy for a Porsche.

That's a receptacle to plug in a 7 pin or whatever you choose. The 7 pin receptacle that plugs into that has a proper plate and dust cover and looks great. Uses the same screws that held the plate as I recall.

x2. That cover plate is thrown away once you purchase and install the trailer lighting receptacle appropriate to your needs. Most of us install the 7-blade RV type receptacle. The aftermarket receptacle bolts right in to the same holes that held the cover plate on.

Save some money and buy it from this or a similar source. Its the same thing without the Porsche markup

I bought it from the Porsche dealer for $17. How much are you going to save?

Matter of fact I got mine from the Amazon website link too. Sorry, when I looked to find a picture for the part, that's the first one that came up likely because I put "Porsche" in the search bar. Didn't mean to send you to a more expensive for the same thing part. Here's where I got mine:
Pollak 11-893P 7-Way Sealed RV OEM Socket : Amazon.com : Automotive Pollak 11-893P 7-Way Sealed RV OEM Socket : Amazon.com : Automotive

I also picked up the adapter to 4 pin in case you need to plug in the old but common 4 pin connector like this:
Reese Towpower 74607 7-Way to 4-Way Flat Blade Wiring Adapter : Amazon.com : Automotive Reese Towpower 74607 7-Way to 4-Way Flat Blade Wiring Adapter : Amazon.com : Automotive

Note: The 4 pin adapter plugs into the 7 pin--it doesn't replace it.

Yup. And this is the one that goes on the trailer. Note the $6.85 manuf suggested retail. Don't get ripped off by those crooks on eBay who sell them for $15 with "free" shipping.

Rip off is relative
here's here's
the same one by same company on Amazon for $4.11 includes shipping but it's an add-on item so you need to include it with other purchases totaling $25. Thanks for pointing out the part. May get one just in case at that price!

I saw that one too, and noted the word BULK. I believe that $4.11 is the piece price when purchased in case lots

Bulk means they don't come in retail packaging. You only need to buy one. The "add-on" means it's special pricing that has to be added to another order to get it at that pricing and the free shipping. Actually one of the links to buy from your prior link to that part was also same price. Likely that's where Amazon is sourcing it.
