Very strange problem on my Cayenne S

During Auto Start-Stop operation, the driver side front dash speaker would cut out momentarily each time the engine restarts. It is very annoying as the sound stage would collapse to the right and quickly come back to the middle. And this only happens when outside temperature is approximately 10C/50F or below, so in summer time it works perfectly fine. My dealer has contacted Porsche Germany and they suggested to try to swap the DC inverter from another Cayenne with mine but it did not fix the problem. We are now waiting for further instructions from the factory. Even though I don't always use the Auto Start-Stop function, it should still be working the way it should, especially on a $100k vehicle. Any thoughts?

If it was all the time I would bet on a bad ground causing interference when the start/stop is engaging. Since it's temp based, you've got a bad component somewhere in the audio or start/stop systems. Since it's only during start/stop, I'd start replacing those modules first.

I don't know enough about the start/stop to suggest where to start though.

Alternatively replacing the amps might be a good starting point too. I've seen bad amps do weird stuff while seeming to work fine in all other circumstances.

Updates: Technical Support from Porsche Germany advised to swap out a DC converter from another Cayenne that does not have the problem with mine, they did it and the problem remained. Now they are suggesting to replace the amplifier. Car going in next week. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Updates: dealer replaced amplifier, problem persists, now have to wait for factory technical support on what to do next.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause of the problem might be? I did call PCNA to try to 'speed things up'. They assigned me a case number and they have got in touch with my dealer, the PCNA lady has called me a few times, hopefully a solution can be found soon.

No clue, but don't rush them too much. I know how much it sucks to be without your car for an extended time, but electrical issue can be notoriously difficult to track down and fix.

Also don't just get frustrated and not take it back again if this round doesn't fix things. This could be indicative of a bigger issue and/or lead to other issues down the road depending on what the real root cause is (e.g. premature alternator failure).

I do have my car back with me. No point to leave it at the dealer to wait for them to find out what to do next. I don't usually use the Auto Start/Stop function, but it should still be working as designed. Like gnat said it might be indicative of a bigger issue down the road.

Not sure if this pertains to you, but on my Cayenne, I've had noise if I accelerated. Took it to the dealer and they found that it was a bad ground connection.

JimGT3, what kind of noise did you experience? Mine is only affecting one speaker and when outside temperature is low. My dealer is still waiting for further instructions from the factory technical support.

The noise I had sounded like popping and static. Came from the front speakers on the dash. Can't remember exactly where this was as it was over a year ago.

I have the same problem + more

My driver side door speaker cuts out during restart if the car has been off for more then 3 or 4 minutes. if the car is off less then that I don't have any speaker problems.

I also have had problems with:
*the dome light coming on at 50% when opening the door instead of full on.
*Windows auto up not working
*touching driver door handle not unlocking car (all other door handles work) I have enter and drive.
*key not recognized when trying to start the car.
*HD radio will switch bath and forth between HD and stand radio every few seconds but on some station. other stations are fine.

It seems that these only happen when its cold, below freezing and its very sporadic and i only ever have one of the issues every now and them.

I took it to the dealer and they are going to replace the PCM. Hopefully that will fix the problems.

wildjeff, does your door speaker cut out during Auto/Start Stop restart? Because when you do a normal engine start, it is normal that all speakers do cut out briefly.

my driver side speaker will only cut out during Auto/Start Stop restart. the rest of the speaker stay on and it only happens if the engine was stopped for a few minutes, like when I'm waiting at a long stop light.

wildjeff, thanks for the quick reply. My speaker cuts out regardless of how long the engine has been off. My dealer is still waiting for further instruction from the factory technical support. Do you have Bose? Do they have to order the new PCM from Germany?
