Angry 2013 GTS Oil Consumption

Hi All,

I have a 2013 Cayenne GTS with only 4,900 miles on it. I recently got a low oil level light and added a full quart of oil. The light turned off after adding the oil and the level is back to the middle of the gauge now.

Does this seem normal? The first scheduled service is not until 10,000 miles so i am very concerned.

My 2008 Audi S4 has used only a half quart of oil in 6 years of ownership but my friend's 2013 Audi S4 used almost a quart of oil before hitting 5,000 miles.

Am i worrying about nothing? My friend seems to think it is the nature of these high performance engines...

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Eddie

P.S. Here are a few pictures of my GTS!

Depends. My GTS ran 10,000 without needing oil; I then had an oil change and now it's still full at 15,000 mi.

It seems many people almost want these things to burn oil. There are lots of complaints like yours that are then followed by a litany of "that's normal, I burn X" responses. People also say that Porsche dealers claim it is normal and won't do anything about it unless it is really bad.

They claim it's a function of a high performance engine, but I think that's BS. Our 996 is 14 years old and is around 70k and has never burned oil.

If I had an engine that was eating a 1/2 quart of oil within its OCI (and you're on pace for 2 quarts!) I'd be sitting on the dealer until they fixed it. I recognize, however, that may be an exercise in frustration though if the dealer wants to take the stance that "it's normal". Should you have to fight with them, talk to some local Porsche Indies to get their input on what you should expect and what might be causing it.

I had to put a quart in around 8k miles... I would mention it to the dealership at least... see what happens. It may not burn any more before the 10k service so don't panic yet.

we haven't seen any issues with ours so far...but it really isn't packing on the miles anyways.

Eddie - a modest amount of oil consumption is considered "normal" by Porsche (and BMW M division, Audi Quattro, AMG and others). I'm betting your owners manual even alludes to how much is considered normal.

How did you break in your motor?

Questions I have are what was the oil level from the factory and how hard do you drive the truck?

Hi All,

I assume, oil level upon delivery was normal, although i did not check!

I followed the break in procedure in the manual. The GTS is primarily driven by my dad who is not active on forums. He does not drive excessively hard, if anything he drives conservatively.

It says in the manual that it may consume more oil in the first 2,000 miles, but did not see any mention of what normal oil consumption would be beyond the break in period. Does anyone know this information, or where to locate it in the manual?

Thanks for the responses! Keep them coming please!

Thanks Again,
Eddie

What Porsche considers "normal" is one liter every 600 miles, so you will have a hard time getting them to fix anything.

Your numbers seem to be a little bit off, but just wait to see if this changes once you get past the 10k mark.
