Unhappy Please Help.. Techart DRLs installation problem

Hi all,

so I purchased a pair of Techarts' DRLs and as Techart told me, it suppose to be a direct fit(plug&play) with my Cayenne S with the GTS/Turbo bumper.

However, when my auto shop tried to do the installation, they realized that the connector module between the lights and the car doesn't fit, so it's unable to be plugged in. They tried to contact Techart about it and Techart said it rarely happens and they've only seen it happened once. Right now they are still looking for solutions.

Anyone knows why it is happening? And I will be so appreciated if anyone who has those DRLs could let me know anything about the installation.

And sorry if I didn't describe it correctly because I really don't know much about those wiring stuff.. I will post a photo of the connector later.

I am not sure what the issue exactly is but it took my Porsche dealer a couple of hours to get the TechArt DRLs installed on my car. No issues whatsoever. All TechArt products are supplied with fitting instructions, so if one follows them correctly should be no issues at all.

I think you need gnat's turbo conversion harness/adapters. search for his thread in this forum and in the forsale.

I don't know anything about the TA DRLs so I have no idea if the adaptation is needed or not. This case also sounds like the harness plug differs from what is on the light, but my adapter just uses the same plugs.

ok guys above are the pictures of the connector. It supposed to be a male-to-female but for some reason it came out with male-to-male.. The connector in the 1st picture is from the car and the one in the 2nd picture is from the DRLs.

and guys thank you for helping.

1j0973824 - buy this connector at vag shop and replace second one. n103189105 - pins x4, 357972741 - seals x4

or go to car dismantle yard and cut this connector from used vag lambda-probe

as "thank you" you can make more pictures of how all installed from inside - where to put unit(s), where loom, etc

That's a weird plug. Never seen that before. Is TA not stepping up here and getting you the right part or an adapter?

If not, if they can at least give you the info on their wiring and you can see my DIY thread for the DRL adapter to get snp_cayenne's wiring diagram an the part numbers for the wires and plugs you need. ECS can get them for you, but it's a VAG part so you should be able to hit up a local VW dealer for them and at least skip shipping.

The one on the TA DRL. That doesn't mate to any plug I've seen on the 958. It also makes no sense for this application as it only appears to be two pins and the signal bars need 3 (TT/GTS bar) or 4 (normal DRL + signal bar) pins to work.

bad photo, too much flash & no focus. it is 4 pin, in fact this two are same, just different manufacturer, vag one have additional outside part. such plugs are selling thru WURTH shops as universal.

Thank you all for the replies.. I'm appreciated, and sorry for not able to provide the more detailed photos. (Since everything was already installed to the car while we realized there was a problem with the plug)

I will post another photo, hope it will explain better

ok here is the instructions that Techart sent to me, note that the parts in the photo aren't mine (I drew the red circles so it might help me explaining)

We are missing the whole parts in the circle#1, it wasn't included in the box that I received from Techart (the one I have is the weird yellow one with the red plug that I posted above, and it's not even long enough). Also, the technician who were working on my car said the adapter (circle#2) in the photo doesn't go anywhere in the car(just hanging there). Wondering if it's just normal?

Again, thanks for all the replies can't wait to have this thing fixed.

if you don't have part №1 - and you will make something instead - dont forget put resistor there as gnat did, seems that TA have one in their harness... otherwise will be error on dashboard

Looking at that pic I'm not sure if the resistor and wiring would be needed, just swapping the plug.

My guess is that that box that is between the plug and light probably takes care of the shorting that snp_cayenne's wiring diagram has you do if you are making the OEM TT/GTS signals act like DRLs in a bumper swap.

That's where TA needs to be involved to confirm what their wiring at that plug is. Really they should just be sending the correct part in my opinion.

And I can feel for blacksarena as my bumper swap didn't go smoothly and the seal in one of the signals was bad and forced me to have to pay to pull the whole bumper off to swap it with a replacement. I don't care if LEDs are supposed to last forever, they don't and especially not in a prime location to get hit my high speed road debris. Having to pull the whole bumper (which has some horribly flimsy clips) to swap those lights is a horrible design in my opinion.
