Cayenne Diesel Input

Thinking about picking up a used Cayenne Diesel. Want to hear pros and cons from current/former owners. Thanks!

I answered in your RL thread, but my sig has links to some maintenance DIYs for the diesel should you be inclined to such things.

We've had ours for about 36k miles now and 22 months. It's been a great vehicle, really don't have any complaints. The tires look like they are coming up on replacement, but otherwise we've had zero problems. I average about 28-30mpg, it tows like a champ (and gets 20mpg towing) and is a great road tripper.

Looking back, I wish I had waited and gotten blue with beige interior as opposed to white with black. I like the base wheels, the Bose stereo is very good and doing oil changes isn't too hard.

I do find myself topping off the ad blue somewhat frequently, but only because I can't easily tell how full the tank is and I don't want to wind up with urea stank in the trunk, so I put in about a gallon at a time.

what Booch said, and we are at 36000 in 21 months! best vehicle we have ever had, and the list is about 40 vehicles long at this point.

Literally, the only con is its not fun to rev it out (no idea if this changes with the Bluespark tune). That's it. Otherwise, I love, love, love ours. 15 months, 20k miles.

I picked up a '14 CD platinum edition about a month ago. We really like it so far. I've got 2500 miles on it and was wondering where Booch and powdercoatmike get their Adblue. Do y'all use Porsche-branded Adblue or a generic urea formula from Autozone or Walmart or the like?

The one thing I was not very keen on was PSMP pricing so I didn't buy it and I think it's pretty ridiculous too that Porsche USA recommends bringing in the CD every 5K mile (given the reliability of diesels). So I'm looking to minimally to fill up Adblue myself but need some guidance on what formula to get and where to get it. Any tips would be very helpful.

My wife has been driving our CD for about 15 months/16k miles and she's loved it thus far. It fits our needs and wants almost perfectly; although, I must admit that if it were my DD I may have opted for an S instead just to get a few more revs - similar to Needsdecaf's point.

Thanks for all the great input. I drove one recently and it was nice. Real good low end grunt. Opted not to buy the one I was looking at because it was missing a couple options I want.

Peak Blue Def from Auto Zone. It meets the requirements set forth by Porsche.

I also use the generic AdBlue stuff; I have gotten it at Walmart, Mobil Mart and a truck stop. What's funny is that it's usually around (iirc) $13 for a 2.5 gallon container. I brought my CD in for a service this week (second dealer service in 38k miles, I do the oil changes etc myself). I had filled the adblue about a month ago, so it was pretty full, and they charged me $31 to top it off. I would have *****ed, but I figured in the grand scheme of things, it's a minor thing.

FWIW an oil change, fuel filter change, cabin filter change, brake fluid flush and top off of the adblue ran $1008. This was at Hoffman Porsche in East Hartford; they were great to deal with. The initial oil change I got done in Manhattan was about $550.

Ouch! If you can do your OCI then with a couple more tools you should be able to handle the fuel filter too. Even if you pay full retail from the dealer for the filter and extractor it's still only $200. And they charged you to top off the AdBlue?

And people wonder why I'm no fan of letting dealers work on my car more than absolutely needed?

Sorry for the thread-jack, but damn it's crazy what these dealers want for simple stuff.

I've been doing service at my local VW dealer, but started doing my own adblue. Like noted above, peakdef from autozone. I spill less than the vw dealer does around the spare tire.

We are going to take it back to Porsche for the upcoming 40k. I'm guessing there are some software flashes required since I've seen a few post about them here.

I've paid for 2 dealer visits in 2 years; not too worried about it. It would be a different story if I relied on them for all my service, though. I think it's worth having them look over the car periodically, especially since my wife uses it daily and she oftentimes carts around our infant.
